So Why did I become a Celebrant ?
I genuinely enjoy being around people. No matter how hard I try to escape it, my fondness for connecting with others always finds its way back into everything I do. People have stories—each unique and significant—and storytelling is one of humanity’s most intrinsic traditions. Through stories, we have passed down knowledge and history, from important lessons like “don’t eat those berries” to cherished family treasures like Great-Great-Grandma’s apple pie recipe. Without storytelling, we might make mistakes or lose traditions, missing out on the wisdom those before us have shared.
Every day that we walk this earth, we are continuously weaving the fabric of our own stories. Life is rarely perfect, and none of us are angels all the time, but those imperfections are what make us authentically ourselves. We live through moments both good and bad, and these experiences collectively shape our stories. When the time comes for loved ones to bid their final farewell, it is these stories—funny, profound, ordinary, or extraordinary—that deserve to be shared. They help those left behind recognise the person they knew and loved, the one with whom they laughed, cried, and built memories, and whom they will always miss.
This is why I chose to become a Celebrant: to help honour these stories. With compassion, humour, and heartfelt joy, my aim is to celebrate the rich and genuine story that each person has created throughout their life.
