The theme of 2022's World Mental Health Day is 'Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority'.

For over 70 years, The Mental Health Foundation has been working to make sure that mental health is treated on a par with physical health. Mental health problems exist in our lives, families, workplaces and communities, impacting everyone. We need to do as much as possible to prevent mental ill-health – as individuals and as a society. We will continue to call on national and local government to prioritise reducing the factors known to pose a risk to people’s mental health, enhancing those known to protect it and creating the conditions needed for people to thrive.

World Mental Health Day is also a chance to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.

Thank you to everyone who joined the Parent Support Group last month where we covered the topic of separation anxiety. During the group, we discussed what separation anxiety is, the impact on children and young people, along with the impact on families as well. As well as ways to support children and young people in managing their anxiety.

Some of the topics that we covered were coping strategies and breathing techniques, supporting your child to keep a journal of their thoughts and feelings and the types of questions parents/carers can ask to help their child to understand what they are feeling.

We really valued hearing from parent and carers in the group with their suggestions for what they have found has been helpful such as ensuring that their child knows that they are being listened to and having good communication with their child's school.
