It’s that time of year again when mini eggs are lining the supermarket shelves. But, did you know that, just like grapes, they are the perfect size to block a small child’s airway and choke them? And, their hard shell can make it difficult to dislodge with standard first aid techniques.

With whole grapes we advise cutting them in half lengthways and ideally into quarters to create thin strips. But chopping up mini eggs isn’t as easy. So, what can you do?

1. Hide them from the children and eat them yourself – good luck with that!

2. Put the mini eggs into a sealable plastic bag and smash them into small pieces with a rolling pin. Or, crush them in a pestle and mortar.

3. Opt for a different treat. Larger, hollow eggs are much safer for little ones.

We've been having a think and putting our heads together about how we want this page to run.

We feel a shake up coming along and will be reshaping hop4pop, a whole new page will be coming so keep an eye out for more information.

We really want the new page to be a safe space for parents to share their experiences, openly chat and feel supported, once we have it all up and running we will be closing hop4pop and we feel with spring on the horizon and the new premises moving along now is the time.

Hi all, more of a reflection on my behalf rather than a question but I hope to hear some thoughts about it.

I quite recently was having a conversation with a much older person who referenced their child (now grown up) in really outdatedabd not very nice language.

Genuinely took me by surprise and I've been in internal conflict since. Normally I would have said that's not what we say now but at the time I didn't feel there was an opening to do so. I must add this person spoke endearingly of their child so no malice was intended so is the offence mine only.

As a child having a sibling with sen i was very outspoken about this sort of thing.

So I wonder, how do you deal with these uncomfortable conversations and old fashioned terminology?
