Sleep is essential for our health, but not all sleep is equally restorative. Slow-wave sleep (the deep, high-quality stage of sleep) plays a key role in keeping us well, yet it often decreases with stress or age.

A study by Cordi, Rossier & Rasch (2020) explored whether listening to hypnosis before bedtime could increase slow-wave sleep. Forty-three participants listened either to a 15-minute hypnosis recording or a neutral recording before sleeping for eight hours while their brain activity was monitored.

The findings were striking: those who were more responsive to hypnosis experienced significantly more slow-wave sleep than the control group. This research suggests that hypnosis may support deeper, more restorative rest for many people.
