Just finished a client session. One of whom has had a needle phobia for years-today she watched a vet inject her horse a number of times and was fine with that. Acrophobia – the fear of heights, can feel deeply unsettling.

Happy new Year!

I am not sure whether New Year Resolutions work for you? Some people get on really well with a big resolution and others do not like them. Its what works for you but having goals can help us achieve what we would like to in the coming year. But before you make resolutions why not…..

Reflect before you plan.
Take some time to look back on the past year—what went well, what you learned, and what you'd like to leave behind. This reflection gives you clarity about what actually matters to you moving forward.

Choose a few meaningful priorities.
Rather than creating a long list of resolutions, pick 2-3 areas that would genuinely improve your life. This might be your health, relationships, career growth, or a creative pursuit. Having focus makes follow-through much more likely.

Make your goals specific and actionable.
Instead of "get healthier," try "cook dinner at home four nights a week" or "go for a 20-minute walk most mornings." Specific actions are easier to stick with than vague aspirations.

Build in flexibility.
Life rarely goes exactly as planned, so create systems that can adapt. If you miss a day or week, you can simply resume without feeling like you've failed completely.

Consider what you'll stop doing.
Sometimes making space for new things means letting go of commitments, habits, or relationships that no longer serve you. Saying no can be just as important as saying yes.

Share your intentions with someone.
Whether it's a friend, partner, or community, having someone to check in with or celebrate small wins alongside can make a real difference in staying motivated.

Finding Your Calm and Peace This Christmas 🎄

Are you feeling the Christmas pressure? You're not alone. You can see it in the faces of people out and about shopping or talking to friends who are busy with all the preparations. So I thought I would have a think about some practical ways to actually enjoy yourself.....

Firstly pick Your Priorities-You don't have to do everything. Maybe this year is a rest and recover Christmas. Choose 2-3 traditions that truly matter to you and let the rest go. That homemade gift you wanted to make? Shop-bought is absolutely fine. Who will know you were going to make something?

Try to set Real Expectations- the Christmas adverts with their perfect Pinterest tables -perfect isn't real life. Your Christmas just needs to work for YOU and those you spend it with-whatever that is. Lower your bar and raise your enjoyment.

Build in Some Breathing Room and schedule some quiet time in your calendar if that will work for you. Even 20 minutes with a cuppa counts. Protect that time like you would any other appointment. If you fall over it affects everyone else.

Asking for Help is not weak-you do not have to do everything.
Delegate the cooking, split the present list, order the turkey pre-cooked. Other people often want to help - let them. Helping others really can make people feel good themselves too.

Say No- this can take practice but is a great skill to have.
"I'd love to but I can't this year" is a complete sentence. Your energy is finite and precious.

AND Remember What It's Actually About
Remember what matters: connection, kindness, maybe a mince pie. Everything else is optional.

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

I love my life but its not always been like that. Like many I have had my ups and downs in life with the biggest down being when my 15 year old niece took her own life years ago. I hit rock bottom with depression and with the NHS seemingly not interested I found myself sat in the chair of a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist as I knew I needed help dealing with life and my family who were all suffering because of where I was emotionally.

At the first session we looked at what I wanted to achieve and then the therapist explained to me how the brain worked so I could understand why I was feeling as I was and what we could do to change this. I was in a very low place when I first sat in that chair and when I was told that he didn't need to know what had happened and that this was all about the future I knew I was in the right place. I didn’t want to go over all the trauma of the previous months -I knew what had happened and I wanted to move forward to feel better not only for me but for all those around me-my family and my friends too. Just understanding the brain helped me and I was given an audio to listen to at bedtime which helped with my sleep which had been little to non-existent for months.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is about retraining your brain to see the positives over the negatives giving you little hits of the happy hormone serotonin along the way. This is done by writing down the good things in your life and focusing on positive thoughts, interactions and actions. Visualisations about how you want your life to be are then followed by a session of therapeutic trance. This shuts down the busy parts of the brain allowing more space for the creative and problem solving parts of the brain so that they can work better and help you be the best version of you that you can be generally over 8-12 sessions depending on the issues that you come with. I love this therapy as its kind and it doesn’t get you reliving things that should stay in the past. It’s all about your future, a better, happier future. I know it works as when other big things have happened in my life as they will and do, I have been so resilient, seeing the positives where I can which really helps me make better decisions and cope well. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you do this too.
