Finding Your Way Back to you: A Woman's Guide to Rediscovering Yourself After Burnout, Grief, aging, chronic illness and Life’s other challenges.
If you're reading this, chances are you've been running on empty for so long that you can barely remember who you were before the exhaustion set in. You might feel like you've lost touch with your own needs, interests, and even your personality. The woman you once were feels distant, almost like a stranger you used to know. But you know she is still there…somewhere….and you want to find her again or even a better version of her…..
This feeling of disconnection is one of the most profound impacts of burnout and overwhelm. When we spend months or years prioritising everyone and everything else above ourselves, we can gradually lose sight of who we are. We become so focused on others needs that we forget to check in with ourselves..
But here's what's important to remember: you haven't actually lost who you are. That core part of yourself is still there, perhaps buried under layers of fatigue and obligation, but its not gone. What you're experiencing is totally normal and, more importantly, it's something you can work through.
The journey back to yourself doesn't require dramatic life overhauls or perfect conditions. It starts with small, intentional steps toward reconnection. It's about creating space to breathe, to feel, and to remember what brings you alive. It's about learning to trust yourself again and prioritising your needs without guilt.
Recovery from burnout isn't just about rest (though that's crucial too). It's about rediscovering your authentic self and building your life that aligns authentically with who you truly are, not who you think you should be or who others think you should be.
The following tips are designed to help you take those first gentle steps back toward yourself. You have the wisdom and strength in you to heal and reconnect with your true self. You may not believe this but you do. If you need support with this then get in touch and see how I can help.
Start Small by Beginning with small steps rather than overwhelming yourself with major changes. Notice and acknowledge even small improvements in how you feel or what you accomplish each day. Small steps mean you achieve and gain confidence rather than going big and failing.
Take time to identify what matters to you now, rather than what you or others think should matter. Your values may have shifted, and that's perfectly normal and OK. Let these guide your decisions where you can moving forward.
Moments of Joy Find small activities or things that bring you genuine pleasure or peace, even if just for 5-10 minutes. This might be enjoying your morning coffee, listening to birdsong in the garden, or stepping outside for fresh air and a walk.
Say No Start with easy no situations to build your "no" muscle. Remember that every yes to something that drains you or makes you stressed is a no to something that could restore you.
Listen to your body Recognise physical sensations and energy levels throughout the day or week. Your body often knows what you need whether that's rest, movement, or nourishment.
Explore Make notes about activities, people, and environments that give you energy versus those that drain it. Gradually increase the good elements and reduce the draining ones where possible.
R and R Block out time for rest and restoration This isn't selfish - it's essential maintenance and recovery to enable you to be your best self.
Reflect on interests, dreams, or what you liked about yourself before burnout/grief etc.These insights can guide you toward what might be good for you now and going forwards.
Build or Build a Support Network Seek out relationships and people where you can be authentic and the real you. This might mean deepening existing friendships or finding new people through shared interests or experiences.
Focus on Progress This is is an ongoing process. Some days will feel clearer or easier than others, and that's part of the learning and change and thats OK.
Reading these tips is a great first step, but lasting change often happens more easily and more sustainably with the right support. I have moved to Somerset to a cottage in the Country which has been a dream for a long time. Somerset is the land of my ancestors and I love that as I encourage clients to go for their dreams I have finally achieved this dream of mine. Sleep one of the most important things we ever do......We all have sleep issues at some point in our life hopefully not long lasting but for many clients sleep is a BIG issue.
Lack of sleep goes hand in hand with many mental health problems and lack of sleep doesn't help them get any better either. So hopefully you can see that sleep is sooooo important for us all. How do you sleep?

Lack of sleep means our brains go into high alert mode which means we divert brain power away from making good decisions based on proper information to emotional short term decisions that are impulsive and often rash.

Did you know chronic insomnia the lack of sleep is defined as having trouble sleeping for 3 or more days a week over 3 months or longer....

There are things you can try to get better sleep and give your brain the chance to make better decisions...

:Check with your doctor to rule out any physical cause first if you need to? What could be causing your lack of sleep?

: 8 hours is often cited as the sweet spot for adults however a good night sleep varies due to age, genes and lifestyle for example so you may need more or less-working out what is your ideal is helpful and its when you wake up feeling refreshed and not sleepy during the day so you can function well until the evening when you wind down for bed once more.... How much sleep makes you feel good? How do you know it makes you feel good?

:Go to bed and get up at the same time so your brain has a clue what you expect and will help you get ready to go to sleep. Get out in daylight in the morning to set the body clock and hormones for sleep. daylight banishes the sleep hormone melatonin and activates the awakening cortisol which helps get us going for the day. whats your best time to go to bed and get up and why?

: A cooler room is better for sleep-I have my windows open throughout the year.....Do not put a TV in your room, No screens for a minimum of an hour before bed as the light affects our sleep patterns, avoid caffeine after lunch, use a sleep app and don't exercise less than an hour before you go to bed. Which of these are you going to try?

:Make your bedroom and your bed a place you like to be-if you hate your bed you will feel anxious and therefore it will affect your sleep. How can you make your bedroom a place you like to be?

Its been a while since I last introduced myself so here we are....
I’m Charron and I am a clinical hypnotherapist. Many of my clients are busy women who are feeling overwhelmed with the challenges of work and life and are often feeling like they have lost who they are and are struggling with their day to day life. I help them to take back control, find themselves and live a more fulfilled joyful life. This book is a collaboration between the complimentary strands of the work that I do-the colourful art I create, The work with wildlife conservation and The Solution Focussed Hypnotherapy that has helped many clients with their mental health and living their best lives for over 5 years. I love what I do.

Thisook is a collection of delightful animal characters with their words of wisdom, cute thoughts and a tiny dose of humour to help us think about small changes we can make to be happier and to live our best lives.

It is a book is for anyone and everyone who needs a little lightness and lots of colour in their life. It is also for parents, grandparents, and any caring adult to read with children to talk about life's little messages and to learn a little about our beautiful nature. It is a gentle, happy place with paintings of British animals and birds with their unique characters and messages of life.

Hers a sneaky peep at the front cover of my book that is being published very soon. it has taken longer than originally planned but I am very glad to say there is not long to wait now. It feels a bit strange to say this as it wasn't one of my life goals until many of you responded so enthusiastically to the paintings and words that I created after the loss of beloved Poppy dog with many suggesting I got them published. I am looking forward to the publication day.

I need to decide how to celebrate-it's important to celebrate our successes because it can help motivate us in future and help us feel a sense of purpose in our work, its makes us feel more positive and therefore helps our mental health and it

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

I love my life but its not always been like that. Like many I have had my ups and downs in life with the biggest down being when my 15 year old niece took her own life years ago. I hit rock bottom with depression and with the NHS seemingly not interested I found myself sat in the chair of a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist as I knew I needed help dealing with life and my family who were all suffering because of where I was emotionally.

At the first session we looked at what I wanted to achieve and then the therapist explained to me how the brain worked so I could understand why I was feeling as I was and what we could do to change this. I was in a very low place when I first sat in that chair and when I was told that he didn't need to know what had happened and that this was all about the future I knew I was in the right place. I didn’t want to go over all the trauma of the previous months -I knew what had happened and I wanted to move forward to feel better not only for me but for all those around me-my family and my friends too. Just understanding the brain helped me and I was given an audio to listen to at bedtime which helped with my sleep which had been little to non-existent for months.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is about retraining your brain to see the positives over the negatives giving you little hits of the happy hormone serotonin along the way. This is done by writing down the good things in your life and focusing on positive thoughts, interactions and actions. Visualisations about how you want your life to be are then followed by a session of therapeutic trance. This shuts down the busy parts of the brain allowing more space for the creative and problem solving parts of the brain so that they can work better and help you be the best version of you that you can be generally over 8-12 sessions depending on the issues that you come with. I love this therapy as its kind and it doesn’t get you reliving things that should stay in the past. It’s all about your future, a better, happier future. I know it works as when other big things have happened in my life as they will and do, I have been so resilient, seeing the positives where I can which really helps me make better decisions and cope well.
