I love my life but its not always been like that. Like many I have had my ups and downs in life with the biggest down being when my 15 year old niece took her own life years ago. I hit rock bottom with depression and with the NHS seemingly not interested I found myself sat in the chair of a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist as I knew I needed help dealing with life and my family who were all suffering because of where I was emotionally.
At the first session we looked at what I wanted to achieve and then the therapist explained to me how the brain worked so I could understand why I was feeling as I was and what we could do to change this. I was in a very low place when I first sat in that chair and when I was told that he didn't need to know what had happened and that this was all about the future I knew I was in the right place. I didn’t want to go over all the trauma of the previous months -I knew what had happened and I wanted to move forward to feel better not only for me but for all those around me-my family and my friends too. Just understanding the brain helped me and I was given an audio to listen to at bedtime which helped with my sleep which had been little to non-existent for months.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is about retraining your brain to see the positives over the negatives giving you little hits of the happy hormone serotonin along the way. This is done by writing down the good things in your life and focusing on positive thoughts, interactions and actions. Visualisations about how you want your life to be are then followed by a session of therapeutic trance. This shuts down the busy parts of the brain allowing more space for the creative and problem solving parts of the brain so that they can work better and help you be the best version of you that you can be generally over 8-12 sessions depending on the issues that you come with. I love this therapy as its kind and it doesn’t get you reliving things that should stay in the past. It’s all about your future, a better, happier future. I know it works as when other big things have happened in my life as they will and do, I have been so resilient, seeing the positives where I can which really helps me make better decisions and cope well.
