I am looking forward to teaching an Advanced Training for Feldenkrais practitioners for the London Feldenkrais Collective 'Moving pieces' in London Bridge on Saturday 25 October (10.30-16.30).
We will explore how we can create meaningful and effective Functional Integration lessons and will consider how we relate what we are doing with our hands to the enquiry our clients have at the beginning of a lesson. Are there ways we can think about our work that potentiates our students somatic learning and helps them to make more sense of a lesson?
The day will a mixture of theory and practice.
Please visit https://londonfeldenkraiscollective.as.me for further details or to book.

“Nothing has a stronger influence psychologically on their children than the unlived life of the parent.”- Carl Jung

Maybe this is in part why I became a Feldenkrais practitioner as the Method considers how we and our students can grow into our ‘potent self’ (The Potent Self - Moshe Feldenkrais)

The topic of my Advanced Training over the weekend was ‘Working with children’. We were exploring and learning how to approach working with children of all ages and abilities using the principles of the Feldenkrais and Child’Space Method. I loved the groups curiosity and engagement. We were considering questions like: Shall we work on the floor or table? How do we use touch and movement? Is it helpful to use toys and movement props? What can we do when a child does not want to stay still or cooperate or is overly compliant? How much should we involve the parents? All in all a fruitful experience.

In this advanced training for Feldenkrais practitioners we will learn how to apply the principles of the Feldenkrais Method to working with children of all ages and abilities. How is working with children different to working with adults? What do we need to consider? How can we engage a child in a lesson even if she/he does not want to be touched or cooperate? How can we create a meaningful learning situation despite possible challenges?
We will explore relevant ATM’s, FI’s and there will be demonstrations with a baby and an older child plus discussions.

The way we relate to ourself in movement often reflects how we relate to ourself in life generally.
Are we taking our time to do something or are we rushing?
Do we breath as we move or compromise our breath?
Are we looking for easy, comfortable ways to move or are we pushing and straining?
Are we exploring, experimenting or are we striving and wanting to achieve?

Messages we received from our environment when we were young often influence how we later relate to ourself and what we ask of ourself. How many of us have been told to work hard, try our best and do well?

Observing these internalized attitudes during movement and finding ways to adjust them can filter into the rest of our life and encourages a more open, friendly and accepting approach towards ourself and our daily activities and challenges.

When the quality of our movements improves the quality of our life does too.

During this workshop we will use Feldenkrais lessons to help us observe how we move and connect to ourself and how we can alter and modify our motions learning to listen less to unhelpful expectations and drives and more to what feels right and good to us.

‘Using props in Functional Integration’
10.30-16.30
Unit 4, 26 Round Hill Street
£150.00 (£50.00 when booking, remainder 8March)

In this 3rd Advanced Training we will explore how using props can enhance Functional Integration lessons. We will consider how using rollers, egg balls, blankets, pads etc can enrich our clients sensory-motor experience and contribute to a meaningful learning situation. When do props add an element of safety, curiosity and playfulness? Are there times when using them is not appropriate?

The weekend will be collaborative drawing on your prior learning and expanding it further. There will be a mixture of ATM, FI and small group work.

I very much enjoyed teaching my ‘Moving towards headstand’ workshop yesterday to this engaged and motivated group. At the end of the day everyone was comfortable putting weight on their head, moving their pelvis over it and resting their knees on their elbows. Fun inquiries!
