How Psychotherapy can make you wealthy

OK, so I have got your attention. Let’s delve deeper into this. I am not advocating psychotherapy as a way of getting rich. That would cheapen it, and it would miss the point. Psychotherapy is a profound good in and of itself. It is one of the few places in modern life where you are…

Working with children and adolescents is a specialised field and my training has equipped me to be able to use skills and approaches that allow me to work with young children who may not have the emotional vocabulary to express themselves.

I welcome referrals for children, adolescents, and young adults.

Approach
My practice is based in the psychodynamic tradition, which places the therapeutic relationship at the heart of emotional change and supports young people in making sense of their inner world through a consistent, confidential, and trusting relationship. I work relationally, recognising that, alongside talking, distress can be expressed in a non-directive way through behaviour, play, or physical symptoms. Working with these relational patterns can help find the root of concerns which enables a positive and lasting change.

Alongside therapy sessions, I work closely with parents, carers, and professionals where appropriate. My approach is non-judgemental and flexible, and tailored to the developmental and emotional needs of each child or young person. I am experienced in both long-term and time-limited therapy, depending on the situation and what feels right for the individual.

Repetition compulsion: why we repeat the past and how therapy helps...

We often speak about ‘moving on’ as if the past were another country that we might simply depart. But we can no more exit our history then we can escape our own shadow; if only it were that easy. We act out our past in the present with varying degrees of conscious awareness over and over. Freud’s theory of repetition compulsion describes the unconscious tendency to repeat past dynamics or traumas, by seeking out similar relationship patterns over the lifespan. In this cycle we are drawn to that which feels familiar, even when it is painful or destructive, in an unconscious effort to master or resolve old wounds.

Meet our Team, Lucie Ramet

I am inspired by research in psychology, sociology and neuroscience that explores the keys to well-being and the science behind happiness, compassion, resiliency, and purpose. I find it essential to apply these findings in therapeutic work to promote a thriving and resilient society.

Bereavement Counselling
When we are bereaved, we can feel overwhelmed by a whole host of feelings such as sadness, anger, pain, hopelessness and depression. However, it is also possible to feel what may be confusing feelings such as relief or peace, for example, when our loved one has suffered for some time, or we have felt consumed by their illness.
Feeling relief at the loss of someone we care about deeply is no less ‘proper’ than feeling sadness and grief, but it may feel a lot more socially unacceptable.

The psychological vulnerabilities that draw people into cults by Sam Jahara.

People rarely join cults because of a lack of education, intelligence or judgement. Many individuals who end up in such groups are highly educated professionals with no shortage of resources. Despite claims that ‘anyone’ could join a cult, clinical experience suggests otherwise. People who are gradually seduced into cults – always initially masked as something…

Thought of the week…

Transference — especially erotic transference — remains one of the most debated aspects of psychotherapy.

Is it misunderstood? Under-discussed? Mishandled? Or simply uncomfortable?

How do you approach it in your work?

Let’s talk.

“Simply understanding a pattern intellectually does not necessarily shift the lived emotional expectation. For the brain to update its predictions, it must repeatedly experience safety where it expected danger, support where it experienced neglect, or curiosity where it received disinterest.“ Joseph Bailey
