PLANT MEDICINE

Great day at Chelsea Flower Show yesterday! 🇬🇧

Still blows my mind that such beautiful flowers and plants also make such powerful herbal medicines!

English favourites of mine include:

🌺 Peonia lactiflora (Peony) - the root is used for female repro I use a lot for PCOS & periods problems

🌺 Achillea millefolium - (Yarrow) as an astringent for heavy me**es

🌺Echinacea - immune stimulant and lymphatic for acute or chronic infections

🌺 I also love the whole Salvia family - (Sage) is used for hot flushes and as an astringent.

All pretty mind blowing really!

MENTAL HEALTH TIP 2 PROTEIN

Whether you’re a new mum struggling post partum, a teen anxious with puberty or a woman struggling with hormonal fluctuations food really can be a powerful intervention to help you feel better.

To start with eating the rainbow and aiming for a Mediterranean whole food diet is a great template for all of us to ensure we get fibre and variety of polyphenols to feed our gut bacteria.

Adequate protein is a key part of that eating pattern. It’s what I talk to my clients about before veggies! It’s such a helpful macro for helping steady mood, energy and hormones.

✅ Aim for 25-30g protein at each meal (this will vary depending on your weight and activity levels). If you snack ensure protein is there again.

✅ Amino acids (that form protein) are the building blocks of our neurotransmitters (like serotonin and dopamine). So we need a good supply of them!
✅ Protein steadies blood sugar so reduces anxiety.
✅ Protein keeps us full for longer reduces the desire to comfort eat and graze on processed crappy foods that don’t have the same health benefits.

FLUFFY PANCAKES 🥞

I’ve posted these before but not made them for ages. This morning I had no time on school run but squeezed it in anyway! Literally got them in at 8.29! 😜

Got one bunny not feeling great and low appetite early in day but I knew he would eat something if I made these.

Fluffy and light you need to separate the egg yolks and whisk the whites but it tastes only 5 min to make honestly!

Worth it. He had 4 this am and glass of cows milk with raspberries. Then after school 4 more with banana and blackberries. Bit of maple syrup and cooked in heat stable coconut oil. Happy me.
Happy kid. No biscuits or cereal consumed or requested! 🙌

Eggs - choline and protein dish for brain health & focus.
Buckwheat - naturally gluten free. Any milk you like.
Seasonal fruit for fibre & polyphenols to fuel the healthy gut bacteria.

It’s a win when you make the effort and they lap it up. Shall I post the recipe again?

HOLIDAYS

Feeling super grateful Easter holidays finishing a long planned family trip to India.

Plenty of time to relax in Goa after a busy noisy time in Mumbai for cricket training. A couple of nights in Jaipur were magic too.

Highlights were meeting an elephant at a sanctuary, seeing turtles hatching & boys meditating with the local kids before training at sunrise. 🏏 🥰

Felt surprisingly relaxed and body at its happiest sweating (a lot!) daily & not having to do anything!!

Hope you have had a restful holidays. If not cancel plans tomorrow and carve some time out for you. X

It can be used for yourself or gifted to your mum or female friend too in the form of a gift voucher.

Gift vouchers also found on my website if you want to gift your mum some 1:1 time to deep dive into health optimisation and disease prevention.

Good luck! 🤞

BREAKFAST | BRUNCH | LUNCH | PICNIC | DINNER

Made up the .hemsley inspired frittata again & loving the ease of eating over 3 days and not having to keep cooking!

I made it for dinner for me, breakfast the next day and then again the next just heating it up in pan to room temp. So easy!

Beetroot, squash, courgette.
Add onion if you like & tolerate
Cook in hot oven with olive oil & herbs I used sage from the park!!

When soft cover with 12 whisked eggs & I added feta which was bloody yum with the beetroot.

Cook until set. Cool and keep in fridge.

Divide into 3 servings for a good 20ish gram protein (with the cheese & avocado 🥑)

Perfect for a picnic in summer or to take to work as mobile breakfast or lunch. Serve with a salad 🥗

JUST 20 MINUTES

What is your favourite thing to do to reset & recharge your body when you just have 20 minutes?

Top marks for anyone that’s thinking s*x! 🙌
More on that tomorrow .. 😉

Having crappy shoes in your car or in your hallway/at work so you can grab that 20 minutes & get out walking in nature whatever the weather is ideal. We are all busy but you only (probably) get one life & one body…

☀️ Just 20 minutes power walking lifts your mood, lowers your cortisol, gets your circulation going, your thyroid & metabolism firing, your digestion moving & will help sleep too. ☀️

Good value & 20 minutes well spent I say. Get out there! 🚶‍♀️

VITAMIN D APRIL - OCTOBER

☀️ Beautiful sunshine here for a while March 1st! Wonderful for the mood and for getting us outside & moving yay!

🇬🇧 Please be aware due to the latitude we can’t make vitamin D from the sun until mid March - mid October. ☀️

So supplementing still is important. Ideally get checked with GP or privately so you know your current status & can dose accordingly. This is cost effective as you might not need to use as much is levels ok!

Examples in Friday clinic:

1 with very low levels deficient in bloods (been taking 1000iu daily) and on holiday recently but covering up with factor 50. Now we know she needs to up the dose for 2 months and likely continue with low dose in summer.

Another client taking her 3000iu daily (and magnesium that helps absorption) now at optimal levels. She will drop down to 1000iu a day and then sensibly sunbath her arms and legs in UK sun.

✅ Genetics 🧬 play a part in how well you make Vit D & absorb it.
✅ Skin tone makes a massive difference
✅ Exposure to sun and being outside in the right months helps too!

I like for their sprays.

Kids like the red spray for a different mint flavour.

❤️ Don’t forget your parents. They are VERY likely low at end of winter. ❤️

Best immune defence against 🦠

REST

Ok this first picture is a bit ironic as just been for a walk in the Downs! But the sign was screaming at me to be photographed! 😜 From Sunday.

Second photo is actual rest (when I put my phone down). My kids have just told me to rest. They are on the sofa resting! It’s half term and they just literally told me it’s ok to rest mummy! So I am on my bed - midday. Behind with work and house chores and actually a bit hungry but listening to my body and laying down!!

Third photo is a crossroads. Often we do have choice to rest we just don’t take it. Women take note!!

Turns out i am never gonna get to the end of my to do list. The clothes washing is circular for one thing!

And the privilege of having kids means I have to keep cooking and clearing up..

But there is definitely more room in my life (and my clients) for more no. For asking for help. For postponing. For leaving the weekend unplanned and empty.

Listen to your body when it asks for rest. There is no prize for busy. Healing can occur best when In parasympathetic ‘rest & digest’. So take note and see this as your sign!

WHY HERBAL TEAS?

The therapeutic ritual & health benefits of regularly making & drinking herbal teas are huge!

Unlike a caffeinated hot drink that stimulates your adrenals & nervous system & digestion, herbal teas are mostly really calming & nourishing for the nervous system and soothing to an irritated, inflamed or overstimulated gut or mind.

I was super lucky to share mine with a bestie in the fab over a 2 hour girl talk! The best! Now that’s really therapeutic. 🥰 🥰

🌼 Picture snapped at the train station is one of my favourite to drink is chamomile.

💤 Chamomile has been shown to increase GABA our brains inhibitory neurotransmitter so reduces anxiety & helps sleep.

🌼 Chamomile is also carminitve (gas & bloat reducing) & hydrating of course so great for us all.

My kids sometimes have a little tea at the weekend & they love it.
