I've been reflecting a lot on this time last year. The quiet period before everything changed. Taking things slowly and gently. Being VERY pregnant. The waiting and wondering.

People often say that you can't really prepare for parenthood but I disagree. I felt really prepared. There haven't been many big surprises. We were ready for the challenges and, for the majority, felt able to cope. When we struggled, we knew how to get the support we needed.

This isn't just a fluke, this comes from lots of preparation and even more privilege. Not everyone has access to the resources that we do.

I try to use my work to make this knowledge and resources available to as many people as possible and as affordably as possible. I will always offer ways to work with me at a variety of price points and I do some free work where I can.

If you're pregnant, a new parent or trying to conceive, get in touch and we can explore how I can best support you.

I want to thank just a few of the people who've supported us and made this time meaningful and so many wonderful friends and family members

Sometimes I plan a particular pregnancy yoga class and it goes a completely different direction

I love being able to respond to who is in the room and what they need that day

Today we explored the pelvic floor and the balance of engagement and release. We talked about pregnancy after loss and how that might impact our birth choices

I love having the space and time for these important conversations with nuance and empathy

Today I made this delicious and simple lentil soup that I thought would be a perfect postnatal meal. One thing I offer as a doula is cooking you delicious and nutritious meals in your own home. This can be particularly helpful to nourish you postnatally, after a pregnancy loss, or if you're too tired to cook during pregnancy. Get in touch with me if you want to know more about how I can support you as a doula.

Here's what I made if you're interested -

Ingredients
2tbsp oil
1 small onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, sliced
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp chilli flakes
1 large carrot, diced
1/2 cup red lentils
Stock cube
A squeeze of lemon juice
A handful of rocket (spinach or kale would also work)
Salt and pepper to taste

Method
* Soften the onions and garlic in the oil on a medium heat for a few minutes but don't let them brown too much
* Add the cumin seeds and chilli and fry for 1 minute
* Add the carrot, lentils and stock cube along with 3 cups of boiling water
* Cook on a low heat for around 20 minutes until the carrots and lentils are cooked
* Use a stick blender to partially blend the soup. I like to leave some chunks rather than making it completely smooth
* Add your leafy greens and cook for 2 minutes until they wilt (if you're using Kale you might need to leave it a bit longer)
* Add a squeeze of lemon and salt and pepper to taste

It would be really good with warm bread a butter to make a more substantial meal. It should keep in the fridge for 3 days or it would freeze and reheat well.

Many cultures use soups and stews with warming spices as a big part of postnatal nutrition. It's nourishing, hydrating, and full of plant based iron to replenish. You could also drink it straight out of a cup, making it a perfect one handed meal.

If you try this recipe, please let me know how it turns out!

Yoga with your baby or toddler...

I've got a couple of spaces left in my yoga classes tomorrow (Thursday) morning 10:30-11:15 parent and toddler yoga and 11:30-12:30 bumps and babies yoga.

Bumps and babies is the perfect class for anyone who is pregnant, postnatal, or a new parent. We’ll ease sore muscles through gentle movement, gradually build strength, and enjoy moments of calm. Bond with your baby while supporting your own body and meeting other parents.
You can join once your little one is at least 6 weeks or at any point in pregnancy, and most people come until their baby is on the move.

Parent and toddler yoga is the perfect yoga class when your little one is on the move! It’s hard to find time for yourself as a parent so this class is the calm chaos for you, that your child can join too. Children from crawling to school age are welcome to join but the focus of the yoga is for you.
There are lots of toys provided and little ones might join in and copy the yoga but you can also bring toys and snacks.

All parents and carers welcome. This classes often includes getting up and down from the floor unaided, but adaptations can usually be offered for those who need it.

We had an absolutely incredible launch party yesterday. I think over 100 people came, some we knew very well and some we had never met before. I've been absolutely blown away by the response to us opening everyone has been so incredibly supportive.

We have such an incredible team, I'm not even sure I could thank all of the people who have been involved in making this space happen. I do want to give a shout out to our fantastic practitioners .journey.acupuncture Christian Tiplady and a couple more still to be announced who have taken the leap to join us in this beautiful space.

I really need to give an extra special thank you to my partner in all of this I never would have even considered doing this without Lou and they've been so supportive as I've navigated juggling work and parent life.

Classes start tomorrow and I'm so excited to be teaching more classes as I come back from maternity leave. I hope you'll come and join us and bring your friends along too.
