Their organisation, commitment and expertise make a real difference to patient care and to everyone who uses our services.

It’s Volunteer Recognition Day and we’re celebrating all 340 of our amazing volunteers.

Every day, our volunteers make a huge difference to patients and staff by giving their time, dedication and care across our services.

One wonderful example is Barbie and her therapy dog Herbie, who bring comfort, calm and plenty of smiles to patients at Salvington Lodge.

Thank you to all our volunteers, we couldn’t do what we do without you.

Has a member of our staff made a real difference to your care or to the care of someone you love? Now’s your chance to say thank you.

Our Community Choice Award gives patients, families and carers the opportunity to nominate staff who have gone the extra mile, whether through a moment of kindness, outstanding support, or dedication behind the scenes.

Last year’s winner, Jack, said: “Winning the award genuinely made a difference to me. It boosted my confidence and made me feel recognised for what I’d always thought was just my ordinary job.”

Nominations close Friday 10 July.

Complete our short nomination form and help us shine a light on our unsung heroes. Link in the comments.

We’re proud to see Dr Rachel Melsom, Pan Sussex Palliative and End of Life Care Transformational Lead, featured in The Telegraph highlighting the impact of the Comfort Tracker app.

Developed by clinicians across Sussex, the app supports remote monitoring of people in the last year of life, helping teams respond quickly to changes in symptoms and enabling more patients to remain comfortably at home.

Since launching last July, Comfort Tracker has supported around 1,000 patients, strengthening connections between patients, carers and clinical teams while complementing in person care.

A huge congratulations to Angela, we’re looking forward to welcoming her to our team this September!

60 and following her dream, Angela is now a nurse leader in the making! 🏥👏

Angela Tester-Bedford left a 28-year global corporate career to retrain as a nurse at the University of Chichester. Now in her third year, she has achieved 1 of only 20 places on The Florence Nightingale Foundation Early Career Nurses Leadership Programme (chosen from hundreds of applicants by the way!) and will start her community nursing role in Sussex this September.

“Everybody thinks university is for 18-21 years olds but it’s not...Everybody’s journey is different...I came to an open day at Chichester, and I said to my husband I just want to come here. I have loved every minute of it.”

Angela’s story shows it’s never too late to follow your passion, and that life experience is a superpower in healthcare 💪

As community nurses, we continue to be out and about every day supporting people at home. During periods of doctors’ industrial action, please help us keep you well by staying comfortable, staying hydrated and seeking advice early if you feel unwell.

If you or someone you care for is housebound, please make sure essential medication, inhalers and repeat prescriptions are up to date where possible, as access to some services may be more limited at times.

If you need support or advice, community teams, pharmacies, and local services remain available to help.
