Hello!

It’s me (Emily Rose) and one of the sunsets in Scotland over December, in the land of a nurturing grounding time away with family over the festive period.

I saw the sea of the 2 sides of this island from Cullen beach to Brighton beach in one weekend.

Welcome to mid way of January, it is the deep of winter, we are deeply wintering.

Welcome cups of herbal tea, books, slowness, kindness, out in the morning light, but not over doing it. Keeping up the nutrients, vit D and magnesium.

Bringing new things in the spring, the perfect time for fresh starts. Until then, be kind to yourself, nourishing food, early nights, wrapped up walks.

See you for massages and nutrition Wednesday, Thursday, Fridays at and massage and spa Tuesdays and Saturdays at welcoming you back or for the first time. (Hideaway is fully booked usually a month or so in advance)

Mindful drawing is currently monthly at the Black Dove (normally sold out so book in advance) there is a couple of spaces left for the end of January

Make some time for you, creative health, medicinal nutrition, remedial massage

Welcome to November!

How’s your October been? Here’s a selection of some of my October moments in no particular order…

Harvests from the allotment - including my first cabbage and first squash alongside my mama

Celebrations of apples x 3: 1st appleday listened to both at stammer & at 2nd ditchling (picked quince)

3rd: appleland with , saunas and drawing apples, I’d not been for a few years but usually sharing drawing and nice times. Nice to say hi to the 400 year old pear tree again.

Mindful drawing portraiture & life drawing - welcoming back to model (photo - taken at the where life drawing can be found - (come join the next one!)

A wonderful homemade ginger juice from my sister

A washed up brick that I carried to work after stopping by the sea

In between many saunas - The tea and water set at that I carry a few times a day a couple times a week to lovely guests before their advanced massages

Samhain celebrations and a photo of my dad looking like he is having the best time. Looking at pictures of him and remembering my favourite memories have been helping me navigate my grief for his sudden death last year.

(A big shout out and a virtual hug to all the people grieving something or someone be it this year or 50 years ago)

I’ve also been conducting my study in IBS and Clinical Massage - this week is week 16 the final week of results to add to my research paper which will be published next spring.

My current focus with my own health journeys and my clients is that alongside good routines like getting massage, exercise (weight training in particular) and nutrition, we need good human connection and fun, playfulness and time out. To be understood, to feel safe to feel those really hard feelings. In a busy busy world taking 5 minutes to find some awe, to write your worries, to speak to a good friend and to be silly - to laugh - could be all it takes to keep afloat!

What’s your 5 minute hack? Or what would you like to try?

It’s been a busy year for the hideaway team!

Many things happening at once and a lot of juggling - so much so that we’ve missed some great moments to share - so let’s re-celebrate this special weekend early this year:

and .nutrition.emily.rose celebrated birthdays which involved visiting the awesome (if you haven’t been to visit - please do - amazing plunge pool addition too)

The evening before we went to see the incredible on his mindset tour on a Hideaway outing - promoting the must have book “make the changes that last” right now is a really busy time for the team and even more necessary for us to reflect on the important skills of mindset as we journey through the last few stages of our BTEC diploma…

Some top tips from the Mindset tour:

*recognise that you can change and develop new habits

*instead of focusing on a problem - understand it, and move forward

*Make space for rest and relax and schedule this in, even just 5 minutes in a busy day

*prioritise self Care!

What’s your favourite self care?

The Dietes flower bloomed in the courtyard this week at did anyone see it? Here’s the moment captured!

We hope you’re enjoying these long summer days

A poem - Midsummers Day Meadow

Midsummer’s day meadow
is a place that I know
And when the sun has awoken
to its pleasure I’ll go
For here are tall grasses
and wild summer flowers
And I’ll wander here aimlessly
for hours upon hours

There’s a solitude here
born of peace with a smile
Contentment to find
Once you’ve been here a while
And there’s nothing much better
than a walk in a field
which is full of wild flowers
in the fine Sussex weald

A poem by the late poet Jeremy Croucher .nutrition.emily.rose ‘s Father
Who loved the summer

Fuelling before some admin work

✨carrot and chickpea cumin soup topped with roasted caraway beetroot, toasted walnuts and homegrown rocket and mange-tout

✨Packed with nutrients drizzled with antioxidant rich olive oil, gut healthy stuff

🎉What was your fuel today?

❤️Super proud of my clients who have come leaps and bounds with their nutrition - making small changes that last, and feeling the benefits!

What did I do? Now I know it’s not soup weather (or is it?!) but I had a load of carrots!

✨Heated some olive oil gently with some onions and cumin seeds
✨Added lots of randomly chopped carrots, a few bay leaves and some ground cumin too with a little bit of chilli, salt and apple cider vinegar
✨Left to stew and watered the plants
✨Poured the chickpea water in to serve as a binder(aka Aquafaba)
✨blended before pouring the chickpeas in so they were whole with the smooth carrot

✨Whilst the carrots were bubbling gentle - chopped beetroot up and chucked in the oven with caraway seeds and lovely olive oil
✨Chopped up the mangetout and picked and washed the rocket from the windowsill (a great food to grow easy at home)
✨Toasted some walnuts drizzled some olive oil and enjoyed before cracking on with some admin!

Made sure to get some sunshine on me for 20 mins this morning and I’ll go for a walk to work shortly too.
