Paul Salvage Psychotherapy

Paul Salvage Psychotherapy I am an experienced Psychotherapist registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. Regards

Paul Salvage.

I work with a wide range of people and presentations,I work analytically at depth. I am an experienced Psychotherapist registered with both the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy and The Universities psychotherapy and counseling association. I provide a safe and confidential space where you can openly talk about what’s brought you to therapy. I will listen carefully and work with you to explore and unpick, not just your current symptoms but also the roots of these issues. By doing this I believe we can work to create more lasting change and relief from distressing and stuck behaviors and patterns. I have a lot of experience of working with anxiety, relationship issues, depression, family issues, sexuality and identity. I work in Central Brighton near the Pavilion and in Church Road, Hove. Please feel free to contact me by phone - 07974024264 or email paulsalvage@icloud.com with any questions.

"I find you;
You survive what I do to you as I come to
recognise you as not–me; I use you;
I forget you;
But you remember me; I keep forgetting you;
I lose you;
I am sad."

What if mental disorders like anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder aren’t mental disorders at all?

The Psychiatrist's I know working in the field do have a much more nuanced view but the actual discipline of Psychiatry, which if you've ever flicked through British Journal of Psychiatry is overwhelmingly biological.

Researchers find that UK psychiatrists are at odds with one another and support divergent understandings of psychosis.

TEKUTÁ MODERNITA - NOVÉ VYDÁNÍ (ZYGMUNT BAUMAN)

Neškodí nám současný velký důraz na individualismus? To je jedno z hlavních témat knihy Tekutá modernita, jenž dnes vychází v novém vydání. Jde o nejvýznamnější a nejcitovanější dílo polsko-britského židovského sociologa a intelektuála Zygmunta Baumana (1925-2017). Ten v něm vychází z Freudovy teze z 'Nespokojenosti v kultuře' o potřebě vyváženosti mezi osobní svobodou jednotlivce a civilizačních omezení a tradic (tj. superega). V psychoterapiích a psychoanalýzách v současné době nejde vůbec o vzácné téma..

"(...) surrender, implies not defeat but a quality of liberation and ‘letting-go‘. I have explored the thesis that at least in some instances masochism is the result of a distortion or perversion of a deep longing for surrender, a yearning to be known, recognized, "penetrated," and often represents the miscarriage of a wish to dismantle false self. Similarly, some instances of sa**sm are traceable to the obverse of this phenomenon: a failure in the consummation of a more active "penetrative" type of surrender as in object usage. Successful transition from object relating to object usage involves an act of surrender and risk-taking on the part of the infant (or later, patient), as well as a degree of surrender on the part of the facilitating caretaker, or later, analyst."

A part of psychotherapy can be about creating a space for that littl girl, not taking away the pain, that can’t be done, but giving it a space to speak and be witnessed.

So it is in relationships with other people that one learns
to understand oneself. And by understanding one’s self,
one begins to understand other people. Thus the world of
relationships is both the problem to be solved and the
means to its solution. (Howe et el 1991)

To develop normally, a child requires progressively more
complex joint activity with one or more adults who have
an irrational emotional relationship with the child.
Somebody’s got to be crazy about the kid.
That’s number one. First, last, and always.
