An unusual post trying to illustrate that complete denture stability is going to be achieved if the teeth are set up in group function. In the natural dentition this is unusual. The normal occlusion is canine guidance. Is this helpful?🤔

This is a question that the answer is hopefully obvious. Is it? Please comment 🙏🏻

I hear this almost every time I lecture and put up posts. I get loads of DMs as well. I drives me mad that ‘dentists’ think they know better than Universities on how to record a jaw registration. As if Dental Schools would deliberately teach the wrong way or a more difficult way to record a registration. Someone even recently claimed Willis Gauges are ‘inaccurate’ seriously? If you don’t understand removable prosthetics don’t try and teach the subject. If you’re out of your depth get some tuition yourself! And please, if you’re a teacher in a University School don’t teach if you don’t know the subject 🙏🏻. Sunday morning rant with the best intentions Do you agree with my message?

A really common issue I see is under extended upper dentures, both complete and partials. Using the palate for support and retention aid to the success and longevity of both the denture and, if it’s partial, potentially the remaining teeth. It’s commonly assumed that patients presenting with under extended palates can be ‘excused’ as the patient has a significant gag reflex. In my experience in 90% of cases this isn’t the case. A
