The Quiet Joy Thief

You’re sitting at your desk. Or maybe you’re standing in the kitchen, waiting for the kettle to boil. On the outside... everything looks fine. You’re smiling. You’re ticking the boxes. You’re "fine."

But inside?

Inside, there’s a voice. And it’s been talking for a long time.

It doesn’t scream. Not usually. It’s more of a persistent, heavy hum. A narrative that follows you from the moment you open your eyes until you finally—exhaustedly—fall asleep.

“You should have done more today.” “Why did you say that?” “They’re just being nice... they don’t actually mean it.”

It’s exhausting, isn't it? To carry a critic in your pocket everywhere you go. To have your wins dissected and your mistakes magnified until they feel like the only things that define you.

It drains the colour out of the room. It robs you of that simple, quiet joy of just being. You can be surrounded by people who love you, in a life you worked hard to build... and still feel like you’re failing a test you never signed up for.

We get so good at the mask. The "I’m good, thanks!" The "Just a bit tired."

But the truth is... it’s heavy. It is so incredibly heavy to live with a narrator who doesn't like you very much.

If you’re hearing that voice today... I just want you to know: you aren't the narrative. You are the one listening. And you’re allowed to stop listening. You’re allowed to put the bags down. You’re allowed to be "okay" without being "perfect."

Take a breath. A real one.

The critic doesn't get the final word. You do.

You deserve to live a life that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside.

That's a wrap for the year! 🎁 My digital doors are now closed as I take a much-needed break over the Christmas and New Year period.
