Christmas arrived early at John Wills House for their annual Christmas Market, an array of stalls giving residents a wide choice of goodies and gifts to purchase, our thanks to all who contributed items and their time, many thanks to the staff for navigating the residents around the market, sweet treats and cakes were plentiful along with a selection of drinks which were enjoyed in the conservatory while listening to Rebecca sing festive songs.

Last week, members of the John Wills House and Westbury Fields gardening club teamed up with students from Redmaids' High School to create these wonderfully festive Christmas wreaths. Many thanks to Redmaids for such a lovely afternoon!

Residents and staff of John Wills House had a wonderful afternoon with a visit from Barbie & Joe, the residents and staff enjoyed the opportunity to have Barbie on their laps and even sat on some of their beds, she was groomed, hugged and kissed, a wonderful afternoon had by all.

We’re delighted to celebrate Charlotte Phelon, Senior Care Assistant and all-round legend, as she marks an incredible 25 years at John Wills House.

Charlotte began her career with St Monica Trust at Cote Lane — “in the far-off days of sisters and matrons!” — before joining the original John Wills House care team when the home first opened a quarter of a century ago.

Laughing that she’s now “part of the furniture, an original fixture,” Charlotte continues to make a big impact across the Trust. She trains new starters and apprentices, saying, “I get a real thrill helping them learn the ropes and go on to do brilliant things for St Monica Trust.”

What makes her happiest, though, is working with residents and making a difference to their lives. Reflecting on one of her proudest moments, Charlotte recalls organising a holiday to Cornwall for a resident: “They thought it would be impossible to be in a care setting and go on holiday, but we made it happen — and it meant the world to them.”

Congratulations, Charlotte, on 25 years of living the St Monica Trust three C’s -Connection, Contribution and Choice!

It's the JOHN WILLS HOUSE Christmas Market on Friday 5th December between 10.30am & Noon and stuffed full of gift stalls, delicious treats and crafts - plus a Christmas sing-song, mulled wine and mince pies in the Willows dining room. Entry is free and all proceeds from the raffle, refreshments and JWH staff-run stalls will go to a charity voted for by our residents.

If you have any GOOD QUALITY items (unopened cosmetics and toiletries, knick-knacks, accessories, toys, books, music etc*.) that you'd like to donate to the charity Bric-a-Brac stall, please bring them to John Wills House reception by the 4th December.

* sorry - we can't accept jigsaws.

A productive morning was had with residents and staff attending a Poppy workshop in John Wills House, lots of creative residents and staff came together to enjoy each other's company over a nice cup of tea.

A lovely trip out to Weston Super Mare was enjoyed by the Orchards residents. Strolling along the seafront was a bit breezy but enjoyed by all. We stopped to watch the children playing in the sand and making sandcastles while taking in the view. Fish and chips, along with a nice hot drink, were the icing on the cake, followed by a nice journey home driven by the lovely John.

Last day of term at John Wills House art class with our fab art facilitator and teacher, Adele Lippiatt Art Ju**ie. Over the past few months, Adele has been teaching us how to master lots of different art styles with some fantastic results - including our very colourful underwater collage, which will take pride of place in John Wills House very soon. Check back for news of the grand unveiling! In the meantime, thank you, Adele, we've loved our laid-back and very creative gatherings and we're looking forward to starting a new term with you in early 2026!

October's Supper Club was enjoyed by the residents of John Wills House. There was lots of lovely food, and we were very lucky to sample some of St Monica Trust's own brewed centenary beer, called Hundred Not Out. The residents had Geoff Woodland entertain them with his array of songs, Molly Malone being a firm favourite.
