Euan and Neil found a common passion in their love of travel to remote parts of the world. They took this one step further by combining their passion with their careers. As experienced nurses working in travel health and public health Euan & Neil became frustrated with the poor quality e-learning available for health professionals. After leading the clinical education department of one of the UK’s largest nurse and pharmacist clinic networks, they channeled their experience to create Health Academy. They wanted to create a new, fun place for learning with a variety of learning options to suite the goals of the individual practitioner. Our mission is to improve the learning experience of healthcare professionals. We don’t just want you to improve your knowledge and skills so you’re better and more fulfilled in your job!

From January 2026, children across England will, for the first time, be offered a free NHS vaccination against chickenpox as part of the routine immunisation schedule. Delivered via a combined MMRV vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella), this rollout represents the first addition to the childhood vaccination programme since MenB was introduced in 2015.

The programme will not only protect thousands of children from the discomfort of chickenpox but also help prevent severe complications, reduce school absences, save NHS resources, and support working families.

So, what does this mean for families, healthcare professionals, and the wider public health landscape?

There are many aspects to nursing work and the problems we face as healthcare professionals but one part we tend not to think about are the trials and tribulations we face when it comes to desk based nursing. Whether that’s conducting face-to-face consultations, telephone, virtual appointments or wrestling with electronic devices and health records, these problems can be just as exhausting as bedside care but can come with a different set of pressures. Constant decision making, prolonged screen time and dealing with emotional clients can lead to consultation fatigue. This form of burnout is easy to overlook yet common in modern nursing and can cause high levels of nurse sickness and absences due to mental health related issues.

The Workforce Burnout and Resilience in The NHS and Social Care Report, 2021, states that even though Covid-19 had seen a huge mental impact on nurses due to workforce pressures and staff shortages, it had highlighted an already trending issue that has been on-going long before Covid-19 emerged. NHS England released key statistics in January 2025 that looked at how many NHS full time workdays had been lost due to mental health issues. It states that the overall absence rate was 5.7% (638,900 full time equivalent days lost) with a reported reason for sickness being anxiety, stress, depression and other psychiatric illnesses accounting for 24.7% of absences.

🚨 Big Update in Childhood Vaccinations 🚨
From January 2026, the NHS will offer the chickenpox vaccination (as part of the MMRV vaccine) to children for the first time.

✅ Protects against chickenpox alongside measles, mumps, and rubella
✅ Expected to benefit around 500,000 children every year
✅ Aims to cut school absences, support parents, and save NHS resources

This marks the first time a new disease has been added to the UK’s routine childhood vaccination schedule since MenB was introduced in 2015 — a major step in protecting children’s health.

Far too often, training in healthcare is treated as an individual checklist. Yet NHS England’s recent strategies emphasise that team training benefits go beyond compliance. They build stronger communication, increase morale, and support a safer patient experience. In primary care and community settings, training as a group aligns with NHS priorities. These include workforce wellbeing, retention, and clinical effectiveness. By bringing teams together-pharmacists, nurses, general practitioners (GPs), health care support workers (HCSWs), and admin staff, you nurture cohesion and shared responsibility for better patient care.

Builds Morale & Psychological Safety
The NHS “Looking after your team’s health and wellbeing” guide promotes structured team well‑being sessions and reflective practices. These activities build psychological safety, a culture where colleagues feel able to speak up without fear of blame. This in turn boosts engagement, mental health, and retention.

Organisations that foster safe, inclusive environments report lower absenteeism, greater innovation, and improved policy uptake. NHS Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Improvement Plan.

Team training offers structured space for honest reflection, shared challenge-solving, and building trust across professional roles.

Understanding the 4T's of Measles

With outbreaks of vaccine-preventable disease on the rise globally, it’s more important than ever to understand the illnesses we’re protecting against. In this latest entry of our 4T’s series, we’re spotlighting measles, a highly contagious virus that remains a serious public health concern, especially in communities with low vaccination uptake.

At Health Academy, we use the practical and easy-to-follow 4T’s Framework to break down each disease featured in the UK immunisation schedule:

🔹Type
🔹Transmission
🔹Threat
🔹Treatment & Prevention

Let’s take a closer look at measles through this lens.

The 4T’s of Measles
Measles may seem like a childhood illness from the past, but it still poses a very real threat today.
