Okidoki. . . Let’s get comfy and talk a little about yin and yang.
So let’s start with Yang (then Yin 🙈)!
Yang type yoga ( like vinyasa ) , is for the muscles.
Yin yoga is all about the other bits, the connective tissues, the fascia and joints.
You need both to help all the ” stuff “ in your body work properly. It’s also good for your head to sometimes move around and be active. It’s equally as important to let yourself slow down and be still.
The awesomeness of yin and yang ☯️
In yin yoga it’s often ( but not always) a floor based practice. The pace is slower and you’ll hold poses for longer.
Some say that you should be completely still when holding a pose in yin. But if you’re anything like me, that’ll put a s**t ton of pressure on you and your anxiety will go haywire!
So I say if you need to fidget do it, if you need to shift do it! What’s the point of a slower calmer practice if you’re stressed out and anxious.
