Elizabeth Ann Currie
November 4, 1946 - Lamlash, Isle of Arran, Scotland
February 3, 2026 - Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Elizabeth Ann Currie (nee Anderson), age 79, passed away February 3, 2026 at Dulcina Hospice in Calgary, Alberta with her devoted husband of 54 years, James, by her side.
She was born November 4, 1946 on the Isle of Arran in Scotland, daughter of the late Effie and Willie Anderson. She met the great love of her life in Arran, James, who was by her side through life until the very end.
Liz, as she was known to family and friends, faced many health challenges over the last 5 years. As a two-time breast cancer survivor, she was a determined woman who fought fiercely through her most recent illnesses to be with her family. Family meant everything to Liz.
Liz’s impact on the world was her generous love. Everyone who met Lizzy adored her. She was a fantastic cook, talented green thumb, had a wild sense of humour, and was a dedicated wife, Mum, “Nanny” and “Great-Nanny”. Whether it was coming into our workplaces with food and love for all, or bringing her infectious laugh, community spirit, and slightly mischievous fun to the extended Masonic lodge family, Elizabeth was always genuinely and relentlessly herself.
In 1982, Elizabeth and James immigrated to Calgary with their three children to make a new life in Canada. Her wonderful adventure in Canada included family camping trips, epic family water fights, all-night Christmas Eve gift wrapping sessions, dancing in the living room with James, and regularly laughing until tears streamed down her cheeks. Her love for everything purple extended to her hair during the last few years. She was a mighty wee woman who drove a very large truck and loved her wee mini-dachshund dogs.
Elizabeth leaves us with many wonderful memories and an irreplaceable hole in our lives. Devastated by her loss is her beloved husband and life partner, James Currie. Liz is also survived by her daughter, Alison Currie and her son, William (Lauren) Currie; her grandchildren Logan (Alisa) Marsh, Andrew (Alexa) Rohner, Brennen Currie, and Cameron Currie; and her great-grandchildren Callie, Cooper, and Addison Marsh. She is survived by family in Scotland; her brother William (Alice) Anderson as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Elizabeth was pre-deceased by her son, James Currie, in 2009, and her sister Morag Murchie in 2025.
Cremation has already taken place in keeping with her wishes. A celebration of life for Elizabeth will be held at a later date.
