The Over-Prepared Trainer 🎒 Friday Festive Fun

📌 Trainers pack for a single workshop the way most people pack for a weekend away. Me included and my weekend away is not small!

Markers? ✔️
Name tags? ✔️
USBs? ✔️
Emergency snacks?✔️ Absolutely✔️
Enough pens for a small village? ✔️ Without question. ✔️

💡 Fun fact: Thanks to the Zeigarnik Effect, our brains stay alert until tasks feel “complete” — which might explain why we trainers carry everything just in case (including festive biscuits by December).

❓What’s one item you always bring to training — apart from caffeine and good humour?

Gratitude & Giggles 😄 Thankful Thursday

📌Training rooms may be full of serious topics - leadership, confidence, communication
📌They are also full of laughter. And during the festive season, that joy feels even sweeter.

▶️ I’m grateful for the giggles that break tension, the light-hearted moments that build connection, and those “Did we really just say that?” slips that everyone remembers long after the training ends.

▶️Laughter reminds us that learning is human — and humanity is what brings teams together.

❓ What’s the funniest or most unexpected moment that’s happened in one of your sessions or meetings this year? Share it — we could all use a smile.

Laughter is truly learning in disguise

Winning Wednesday – Celebrating the Unsung Heroes 🌟
📌 Caption:
This December, let’s raise a glass (or a well-earned cuppa ☕) to the unsung heroes — the HR and L&D professionals, administrators, and support teams who make every training session run smoothly.
Behind every polished programme are people juggling schedules, chasing feedback forms, and keeping the spirit of learning alive — often without applause. You are the quiet force behind the magic.
💬 Question: Who’s your workplace hero this festive season? Tag them and share a little appreciation — it might make their week.
“Quiet achievers. Loud results.”

📌 The Learning Transfer Gap: Tips for the holiday season and beyond

📌 By 16 December, the holidays are calling, inboxes are overflowing, and everyone’s mentally halfway through their mince pies

The biggest challenge IS getting learning to stick, once people log off for the year.

💡You could try these tips:
✅ Send a “before the break” recap — one paragraph, one reminder, one simple action
✅ Encourage managers to model the skills into January — behaviour is the clearest message
✅ Add quick festive challenges — light, fun, achievable, and great for cementing learning

✨ Pro Tip: Learning sticks when it’s revisited within 48 hours, so keep it:
📌light 📌relevant📌future-focused

🔺 The power of Clarity: This week's inspiration:

🔺As the year draws to a close, it’s easy to get caught up in busyness, loose ends, and end-of-year faff.

🔺Leaders who stand out at this time are the ones who bring clarity — not more noise.

🔺Clarity gives people direction and purpose. Without it, teams hesitate.

🔺With it, they move forward calmly and confidently, even in the busiest season.

❓ Q: How can leaders create clarity right now?
👉 Set clear priorities for what must be done before the break
👉 Communicate simply — less is more in December
👉 Check understanding, rather than assuming alignment

✨ Where could you bring more clarity today, to yourself, your team, or a conversation you’ve been avoiding?

✨Clarity is a kindness. It reduces anxiety, builds trust, and allows people to finish the year feeling steady rather than scattered.

The Training Room Temperature War
📌

🌡️Nothing says “December workshop” like the Training Room Temperature War.
🌡️One half wrapped in scarves, the other fanning themselves like we’re in the Bahamas! 😅
💡 Festive fun fact: The ideal learning temperature is around 21°C — cosy enough to stay alert, cool enough to avoid the sleepy “too much mince pie” effect.

❓As the year winds down… are you Team Arctic ❄️ or Team Tropical ☀️ when you're in the training room?

: Making Project Management Accessible

📌 I delivered Project Management for Non-Project Managers workshop, and received this lovely feedback from a delegate:

“Lily was amazing at engaging with the group, delivering the content and answering all of our questions.”

Project management can feel intimidating for those who don’t live and breathe Gantt charts and milestones — but when you break it down, bring it to life, and create a space where people feel comfortable asking questions, everything changes.

That’s the heart of good training:
✔️ Clear, practical content
✔️ Real-world examples
✔️ A warm, inclusive environment where everyone feels confident to learn

💬 Reflection: Have you ever taken on a project without formal training? What skill would have helped you most at the time?

Wednesday Wisdom – Empathy Doesn’t Mean Easy ❤️

📌As we head into the festive season, let's all remember that empathetic leadership isn’t about being soft — it’s about being human

📌It takes real strength to balance compassion with accountability — to make decisions that are kind and clear.

📌December often brings extra emotions, deadlines, and pressures. A little empathy goes a long way in helping others feel seen and supported.

💬How might empathy guide one of your conversations or decisions this week — especially as the year draws to a close?

09/12/2025

💡By 9 December, “Please fill out the feedback form…” can sound like a Christmas carol no one really wants to sing. 🎶
People are winding down, wrapping up, and quietly eyeing the tin of festive biscuits on the table.
But… year-end feedback is pure gold. It gives you clarity for the close of one year and direction for the next.
💡 Try this:
✅ Keep it short and sharp — three purposeful questions beat ten vague ones.
✅ Ask for one ‘aha’ moment — that single insight can tell you everything about what landed.
✅ Switch to digital — faster, neater, and easier for those half-day-before-leave minds.
✨ Pro Tip: Feedback isn’t about validation — it’s about evolution. Year-end reflections shape next year’s brilliance.

This week's is about Empathy

💬 “People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.” – Theodore Roosevelt

Empathy is often at the heart of effective leadership, because people remember how you made them feel long after they forget what you said.

❓What’s one way to show empathy at work?

Perhaps by actively listening, acknowledging people’s experiences, and responding with compassion?

✨How can you show care for someone on your team this week? Small acts of empathy often create the greatest ripple effects.

for the discerning

📌 As the year winds down, so do our attention spans — especially in hybrid sessions!

📌 Half the team’s in the room, half online, and everyone’s half thinking about mince pies and mulled wine. 😄

💡 Have you tried these?
✅ Assigning an “online champion” to keep the chat lively and inclusive
✅ Alternate voices — let remote and in-person participants take turns
✅ Keeping your eye contact shared between the screen and the room; both deserve your presence

✨ Pro Tip: By December, people crave connection more than content. Hybrid success is 80 % prep, 20 % tech luck, and 100 % human warmth.

❓ What other tips do you have to share for a successful Hybrid Session this season❓

Hello, December 🌟 Hello You!

✔️ This month isn’t just about endings — it’s about discovery.

✔️ As the year winds down, let's take time to rediscover what really matters.

💫 Discover the magic in…
🔸Putting our feet up. Rest is productive, too.
🔸Giving to ourselves, not just gifts, but grace and time.
🔸Sharing food, because connection often happens around a table.
🔸Being joyful. Choosing laughter, lightness, and gratitude, even in small moments.

Let’s finish the year softly — with warmth, kindness, and appreciation for how far we’ve come.

💬 Question: What’s one simple thing you want to discover again this December?
