Whats the true difference with the curious and inquisitive amongst us? We want to know why...

I remember the day I handed in my thesis in the area of genetics of fetal cardiac development during my med school days and my professor sent me off into the world with the words "science's loss is medicine's gain". I haven't been able to shake it since.

So here I find myself years later. My connecting of dots in the blending of my careers is proving to show its true colours and I'm excited about it. I'm excited to be able to apply all of those hours of studying into what I love the most now; the skin.

Having that ridiculously picky approach to what I choose to provide has its merits and my approach into handling each patient involves alot of dicephering of their world within. Our skin talks its own language and you know something... I understand it. But its not in isolation; the intricacy of cross talk takes effort, intelligence and passion to learn to get to a point where you can predict what will happen.

That is me; the skintellectual.

When the likelihood to pigment post healing is at its highest, well lets just say that smarty pants over here has refined and worked out how to minimise the post inflammatory hyperpigmentation that occurs after trauma in skin of colour.

Healing beautifully, all going to plan and that new skin appearing is almost ready for phase 2 of repair. The start to finish journey will be posted soon and I can't wait!

There's an energetic wave emerging which I'm trying to understand and navigate but this past week has revealed a new level of excitement which goes beyond what I expected.

I always thought my astrological level of pickiness was a flaw. Now it transpires it is the foundation to what is to come. Routed to the core of my practice are principles; whether it be aligned with scientific, psychological, holistic or medical direction.

The 'Yes' that will follow is far far greater than now.

Now I know everyone feels their sign is the best but sometimes it's a little fun to reflect on ourselves and make some connections:

Virgoan empathy is quite unique. As earth signs we feel, anticipate and are sensitive in alot of situations. Sometimes we are misunderstood.

We do overthink... gaaah it's been a challenge to overcome but definitely something I've got better at reducing.

Virgoan intuition is usually spot on. So much so its easy to ignore what we don't want to or find hard to accept. But it's vital for our wellbeing. I'm getting there!

We know ALOT. Especially in our fields of expertise. Maybe this is why I was born with words to say 😝

Virgoan's nurturing ability is our forte and sometimes our downfall. I use mine now to empower my clinical and business roles.

We tend to lead, represent and exert influence through our practical sense and are observant and deeply loyal. Unless you make a questionable move 😉

Vedaskinworkethic: in the way we perceive.

In my own journey to understanding the meaning of being an empath, this has stuck with me; no not everyone sees things the way I do or even can feel, reflect on or predict. Thats really ok now. It's really ok that others don't have the capacity to endure or hold grace in handling hurdles. It is how I do it all. Thats my superpower!

I share this concept with those under my care; we can't and shouldn't want to be like others physically or otherwise. It's plain toxic. In a world of push-pulling perceptions on the perfect this and the perfect that, in my industry which in my opinion has so much room for improvement in the way things are projected, who is anyone to tell you to do X so you can feel Y if it's to transform yourself so that you dont fit in with your expectations/look or feel unlike yourself/look or feel unrecognisable??

To change perception in a healthy way is to change your reality... for the better.

Hi there 🙋‍♀️ to those new to me or those stopping by my page I'm Dr Patel/Dr Jigna/Dr P or chatterbox (so my Art Teacher once said). Born with words to say and most of the characteristics of being a Virgo and an empath, my purpose in life is split between the world of Medicine (part time GP) and Medical Aesthetics, Skin and Wellbeing and I practice in Essex, London, UK. I am defined by my identity Vedaskin® which I founded in 2016 and is derived from the sanskrit language. Knowledge of the skin feels apt and bonded to me.

I'm of the rare blood type: warrior ☝and fiercely protective of the loves of my life and my desire to nurture my work ethic. I'm an extroverted introvert and have a holistic and transparent approach. My tribe (patients) make me happy, fuel my passion and push me to do better for them. Happily obliged.

I'm totally winging my IG page, hold a raw, authentic and honest view and will challenge the sensitive and awkward topics. I love avocados, still hate aubergines and gherkins 🤢 and have a fear of horror films and pigeons.

Meet my stunning youngin Carla .ce00 Now we met back in August 2021 and during life's in and out of lockdowns saga, the toll of mask wearing, stress, a bit of hormones and diet led her to me (actually the I'd like to think the universe led her to me when she delightfully completed my online consultation form on my bio 👆😬).

This is us; August 2021 on the left via a selfie and July 2022 on the right pre microneedling treatment. Appreciate the angle and lighting differs but HELLO!!

In a world consumed by trends, the novelty soon wears off. For me the love for what I do manifests in nurturing what I do best; to be fascinated in finding new depths within my interests (and adding to that), challenging conformity and... being different. Being whole.

I had no intention to be a "jack of all trades" (quite the contrary to what my medical career expects) in my aesthetic life but the versatility of applying what I do blends so well in both worlds. Blessed for that 🙏

Today I'm noteably inspired by Bruce Lee for a simple and poignant concept yet so powerful.

I really do feel Nathan and I crossed paths at just the right moment. When I truly think about it, yes it could have been earlier but really the time for me, right at the drop of 2022, started the holistic shift.

I love what I do and do what I love and when family send these types of messages my heart really does burst.

The mindset and wellbeing of the young mind is paramount; education, psychological assessment, careful planning, listening, encouragement, coexisting on the same wavelength all plays a part to carving a healthy path for his skin, mental and emotional future when the world is saturated with vast options, so many of which are not appropriate.

The skin is more than skin! I am so fortunate to be able to utilise my entire skillset to connect every dot that so many miss. I am challenged by a young exquisite mind yet driven to cover his curiosity with the right knowledge.

Vedaskinworkethic: One for the nerds 🤓

When addressing the topic of "my skin is dry and I know I dont drink enough water"... what do you say?

A study by Palma et al, 2015 was designed to quantify the impact of dietary water intake on major indicators of skin physiology. Group 1 consumed less than 3200 mL/day and Group 2 more than 3200 mL/day. Approximately 2 L of water were added to the daily diet of Group 2 individuals for 1 month to quantify the impact of this surplus in their skin physiology. Measurements involving epidermal superficial and deep hydration, transepidermal water loss, and several biomechanical descriptors were taken at day 0 (T0), 15 (T1), and 30 (T2) in several anatomical sites (face, upper limb, and leg).

This stress test (2 L/day for 30 days) significantly modified superficial and deep skin hydration, especially in Group 1. The same impact was registered with the most relevant biomechanical descriptors.
In order to look further into the impact of this dietary water overload on the skin’s physiology, they also assessed the so-called “envelope” function. Skin hydration has been related to skin mechanics to justify preservation of a younger, healthier looking skin. Dermal water was reported to decrease the friction between fibres, acting as a “lubricant”, including in the upper layers, thus facilitating the dynamics of the overall structure. However, a direct relationship between skin hydration and biomechanics was not clearly demonstrated.

The findings clearly showed that higher water inputs in regular diet might positively impact normal skin physiology, in particular in those individuals with lower daily water consumptions. The clinical relevance of this approach should be strongly emphasized in specific conditions where the correction of skin water balance by strategies other than pharmacological might dramatically improve the patient’s quality of life. This particularly may be the case for the elderly or obese, for whom dry skin is a consistent complaint.

Recently I've started a journey into learning about Quantum Biology and boy did I not see the connections coming. Wow. It all started when I realised I have quantum entanglement connections with a handful of people who I call my world. I didnt understand it... ok wait... I'd never heard pf it! Whilst juggling life, work, more life and then some, I find myself drawn to the principles and concepts of what we are in the grand scheme of things... life!

But you see for me its adding the next dimension to my practice; nurturing my empath qualities so that they only work in my favour, not against. Nuh uh ☝... we are done with the downside of it all. But also to strengthen the bonds I have with my patients, the field of magnetism that has appeared and the ongoing pursuit to be...

Its been years!! And a few months to round up chums, both existing and new, to be inspired by what can only be described as the future of aesthetics. I mean... we all know so much already but what is wonderful is the swapping of knowledge and experience, challenging the new concepts, planning our future practices and most importantly, supporting each other. I am so proud of the ones I surround myself with and it is them that help push me to be better and do better. You see my job is beyond my ability to throw together at home and treatment regimens. It is all about my tribe. Vedaskinworkethic: It's been a year and a minute... Its a long and raw story!

TRIGGER WARNING: content in relation to life saving surgery and fertility awareness.

Lord... this post has sat deep in the pit of me all week. I knew it was coming. All whilst sitting an academic exam yesterday in the very field that many, after experiencing the trauma of any sort of fertility treatment complications, would run to the other side of the earth. But you see I can't run; as a GP I have to deal with these very issues every week. The hidden world of fertility and the time, efforts and costs of it all still not talked enough about but the pressure, anguish, distress and uncertainty remains at the forefront of the patients I see. I chose to absorb it. Heal from it.

But here we are... a year on from what I documented openly for the world to see in the run up to my first round of egg collection in April 2021. Less than 12 hours from my procedure I escalated my own care to hospital after concerns of internal bleeding from my right o***y. In a pandemic where having a stoke or heart attack were probably amongst the few reasons any ambulance would get to you as a priority. The perks or being a Doctor... recognise when you're heading for haemorrhagic shock.

Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex, and their A&E, Gynaecology and theatre teams cared for me beyond comprehension. Ok... so I had to teach the emergency senior a thing or two 😉 because no... not everything is ovarian hyperstimulation.

To put this in perspective, I had just over 20% of my circulating blood volume in my pelvis leaking from my right o***y puncture sites. Somehow I managed to p*e but the pain and breathlessness when trying to lie down... wowza. Those who have experienced any cause for peritonitis, ectopic pregnancy or similar... I TOTALLY HEAR YA! Thank god for opiates.

At a mere 3am it dawned on me. F*** what if I don't make it?! Come morning we went from "lets do another ultrasound" to ten minutes later a rather elegant oncall Anesthetic Consultant who, might I add, calming me in preparation for making a life saving decision to have surgery.

Vedaskinloves: cheese... of the classic Fondue and black truffle variety 🤪 Ok so we let our hair down this past weekend and indulged in some goo which was quite frankly heavenly! Of course there may be some who have a meltdown (get it?🤦‍♀️) and can't even contemplate a cheese binge for the fear of breakouts. While cow's milk may increase the risk of developing acne, no studies have found that products made from milk, such as yogurt or cheese, lead to more breakouts. Scientists believe that following a low-glycemic intake may reduce acne because this way of eating eliminates spikes in your blood sugar. When your blood sugar spikes, it causes an inflammatory response. These spikes also cause your body to make more sebum hence the connection with acne. While these findings show that following a low-glycemic diet can lead to fewer breakouts, other studies have not found a connection between a high-glycemic diet and acne. More research is needed to know for sure but hello cheese 🧀 we did love you over the weekend 😬 Whilst triggers for conditions or flare ups vary between us all, I'll always advocate for a healthier varied intake but yes we gotta live a little and savour the journey we go on. I have had the best two days attending to the senses and absorbing the vibrations and healthy energy that serves my much needed detachment. What I have become more comfortable with is releasing from survival mode. To appreciate the now, the blessing of being alive and to actually live in the moment. I've always found that hard... until recently. I have giggled, stuffed my face, zoned out in zen and worn my newly recruited healed scars without feeling uncomfortable for my world to see. It appears I have grown. Cheers to a happy healthy weekend 🧡
