Bude Wellness Warriors The Bude Wellness Warriors is helping the men of Bude connect and become stronger in mind and body đź’Ş

02/02/2026

From substance abuse and addiction, to climbing mountains and leading expeditions for men on their recovery journey - at the next WU Club we welcome Guy Taffer from Anadlu Breathwork.
Guy will be sharing his powerful personal story. A journey that could have ended as just another overdose statistic, but instead was transformed through the 12-step programme and the life-changing power of the breath. This is a truly inspirational session and not to be missed, especially if you're struggling with substance abuse or addictive behaviours.
This is Warriors United Club. A space for men to come together, connect, and walk a path of self-actualisation and personal growth. A place where we can drop the "I'm fine, mate" mask, open up about what's really going on behind the scenes, and discover healthier ways of being that move us toward becoming the strongest, healthiest versions of ourselves.
We meet on the first Wednesday of every month at 7pm. Light refreshments are provided, and we welcome all men 18+ who come with an open mind and a willingness to look within and take responsibility for their health and wellbeing.
This is your chance to connect with a supportive group of men who will walk alongside you on your wellness journey. We look forward to seeing you there.

We woke up to grey skies, heavy rain, and that familiar voice of the comfort zone telling us to turn back. Instead, we pushed through. We showed up for ourselves and for each other.

The reward? Near-perfect conditions. Blue skies. Epic surf. And a clean, cold pool waiting to test our resolve once more. The temperature sat at 9°C, and with new Warriors joining us at one of the most challenging times, the test was real.

This is how discipline is built.
This is how strength is forged.
Not when it’s easy — but when it counts.

Respect to every Warrior who stepped in.

High tide and waves crashing hard made for no easy entry this morning, but that didn’t stop another Saturday cold dip from happening, with the sea fully alive, hearts pumping, plenty of laughter, and a fair bit of grit all round. This wasn’t a gentle paddle or a quiet float, it was raw and bracing, and that’s kind of the point. You don’t have to be fearless to step in, you just have to show up, and if you’ve been watching from the sidelines wondering whether it’s for you, consider this your nudge — we meet the cold together.

This morning the big white horses were charging in, waves crashing hard against the breakwater and reminding us just how powerful and beautiful nature really is. The sunrise painted the bay in gold and black, setting the tone for our weekly meeting with the elements. Through deep breathwork we brought our minds into the present, quietening the comfort zone that always tries to keep us playing small. As the tribe gathered, we stood together and moved forward into the cold proving ground of the Bude Sea Pool. At 8.5 degrees the water still sounded the alarm, but through shared resistance and strong camaraderie we stayed, pushed on, and came out feeling clearer, stronger, and more alive.

Wellness Walk 31 was a true test of mental toughness and resilience. The forecast warned us, Dartmoor waited, and the storm did its best to break us. Waterlogged ground underfoot, gale-force winds and horizontal rain hammering straight into our faces from the first step. We even watched the rain being dragged uphill as storm winds tore through the valleys, throwing uppercuts at us as we crested the hills and fought to stay upright. We set off from Lane End and crossed toward the military firing range. Within a mile we were soaked to the bone, the cold cutting straight through our waterproofs, biting as hard as yesterday’s cold dips. No escape, no easing up. We pushed on toward Hare Tor where the wind only grew angrier. Visibility dropped to less than 50 yards. The path vanished into thick fog, pulling us toward the unknown. We changed course again and again, wrestling through bogs, rocky outcrops and brutal tussocky grass that tried to drag us down. Dropping over the hilltops into Tavy Cleave we hoped for shelter, but the valley betrayed us. The wind funnelled harder, more ferocious and relentless. We moved downriver through rugged stone, shapes looming out of the fog like ghosts. It was eerie, beautiful and unforgiving all at once. It felt like we walked into the wind the entire way. Clothes heavy, saturated, full of water. Comfort was gone. Warmth was gone. But the tribe remained. We supported each other, stayed together, and kept moving when every instinct said stop. This is how warriors show up. The comfort zone told us not to go, but there was work to be done. We answered the call and finished together, forged by the storm. It may have been the longest seven miles we’ve ever walked, but it stands as one of the greatest victories this warrior group has claimed.

Great write up in the Bude and Stratton, summarising what we are all about and why it’s so important for these groups to exist in these difficult times for many.

A GROUP in Bude is doing its bit to help local men take care of their physical and mental health.

When the alarm clock went off, the comfort-zone voice came in loud, convincing us to stay safe and warm. But we all recognised the deeper call. This wasn’t just about showing up for ourselves, it was about showing up for the tribe. And show up we did.

The sea looked angry and untamed. The wind carried the full force of the North Atlantic. We met it by dropping into the breath, then into connection with each other. Moving forward as one unit, no hesitation, no looking back. We stepped into the cold, murky water like warriors going to battle with our own comfort-seeking ego.

And in that battle, we remembered who we are. Stronger than we give ourselves credit for. Calmer. More present. In the stillness of the cold, we forged a strength that doesn’t stay in the sea. It comes back with us into the day, into the week, into life.

The water was 7.2 degrees, made sharper by the wind. We emerged cold, alive, and unbreakable. Ready for whatever life decides to throw our way.

What a great way to start 2026. We had a fantastic turnout for our first Warrior Social of the year. Jem took us on a mindfulness journey, sharing his experience of living with a busy mind and his struggle to find emotional balance, before discovering the life-changing benefits of mindfulness meditation. We learned the fundamentals of mindfulness, how our minds can pull us into worrying about the past or the future, and how that can stop us fully enjoying the present moment. The conversations flowed, there was plenty of laughter, and the evening was thoroughly enjoyable. It was a real pleasure to be in the company of such great men and a chance to come together, connect, and learn a simple but powerful technique that anyone can use to create a better life.

Next month, we’ll be joined by Guy “Taffy” Carter from Anadlu Breathwork who is an addict turned sober breathwork instructor, who has completely turned his life around, climbing mountains, jumping out of planes and bungee jumping — things he never would have imagined before discovering the power of breath.

Same time, same place:
Berries Community Café, 7pm, first Wednesday of the month.

If you’ve been thinking about coming along, this is a great place to start.

Tomorrow, Berries Community Cafe at 7pm we’ll return for our first WU Club Social and will be joined by Jem Shackleford, an international mindfulness and meditation teacher who has taught these life-changing practices globally, including at Oxford Mindfulness Foundation.

Jem previously led a mindfulness training course for us that many described as a game changer and this time, he’ll be sharing his personal journey into mindfulness and meditation, the benefits of these practices and practical ways we can incorporate them into daily life to calm the mind and foster a positive, productive mindset

The evening will be an informal, relaxed conversation, allowing everyone to ask questions and share experiences. Refreshments will be provided, and the event is open to all men who want to connect with a supportive community on a journey of self-improvement and healing.

Mark your calendar and start the New Year with positivity and self-care.

We look forward to seeing you there

We woke to dark leaden skies, heavy with sleet and snow. Icy roads turned the journey into a test before the battle had even begun. The comfort-zone voice was screaming for retreat, for warmth and ease. But the Warriors answered the call, showing up for their own inner strength and the tribe. The Atlantic wind cut like a blade, sleet lashing our faces as we stepped toward the 7.5° water. Every fibre of our being urging us to turn back, but instead, as brothers, we stood together. We moved forward as one. Beyond comfort and fear, and straight into the war zone. In that cold, in that chaos, something powerful was forged. Strength. Stillness. Focus. The biting northerly wind and choppy Atlantic Ocean waters ignited a fire within us. One that will carry us through the day and into the week ahead. We left rewarded with clarity, heightened self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and an unshakable belief that we are capable of anything we set our minds to.

As 2025 comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to pause, breathe, and reflect on what an incredible year it’s been for Bude Wellness Warriors 💚

This year we’ve walked side by side along the coast and through the countryside, shared early-morning cold water dips that tested our comfort zones, and gathered in the heat of the sweat lodge to reset, release, and reconnect. We’ve sat together at Warrior Camp, opening honest conversations around the fire, and allowed ourselves to fully rest and receive during a deeply nourishing sound bath. We’ve also committed to growth through our mindfulness course, building tools to support our mental and emotional wellbeing beyond our time together.

Every walk, every dip, every circle has been about one thing: connection. Connection to ourselves, to each other, and to something deeper that reminds us we’re not meant to do life alone. The courage, openness, and brotherhood shown this year has been nothing short of inspiring.

As we look ahead to 2026, we’re excited to create even more opportunities to come together, strengthen bonds, and welcome new faces into the circle. New experiences, deeper conversations, and more moments that challenge and support us are on the horizon.

Thank you to every man who showed up, stepped in, and stood with us this year. Here’s to continuing the journey — together.
