I absolutely love watching Taskmaster. I think it’s a brilliant insight into people, psychology and how different minds and brains work when faced with a problem.

One of my favourites - 5 comedians had the task of entertaining a member of the public for I think for 10 minutes however they wanted. They panicked. They did interpretive dance. They tried to rap. One ran to the shop and bought beer and ice cream. These are professional entertainers and not one of them did a bit of stand up. I find this utterly fascinating - the most obvious solution is right in front of them and it occurred to none of them to take it.

I popped my little dog in the car at the weekend and when I returned from locking the front door this is where I found him!

Wondering who else can relate to this - not feeling like you’re where you’re meant to be? Wondering how you ended up in the wrong place and unsure how to get back on track? Feel like you’re inconveniencing people and in the way if you try and put your own needs first?

Of course, unlike my dog we humans don’t have someone to simply pick us up when we get off track and plonk us back down where we’re supposed to be!

Counselling however can at least help us get an idea of where we would like to be in life and start to encourage us to reflect on how we might get there.

Bit of an intense week so far…….taking time for some self care this morning. Cuddles with my dog, cup of tea and indulging in some Would I Lie To You on the TV. Should I be cleaning the bathroom? Yes. Should I be doing another layer of paint on the kitchen wall? Yes. Do I want to? No. Right now, I need puppy cuddles and a bit of light entertainment on the TV so that’s what I’m going to allow myself to have!

Consumed this book in less than 24 hours yesterday. An excellent read about the loss of his son at 2.5 years old. Such a visceral and explicit exploration of his grief that I’m sure will stay with me for a long time and will undoubtedly inform my work with my clients.

This handsome puppy is 3 today! Hence the smart bow tie. He’s not keen on it but a few sequins never hurt anyone. I know I certainly feel better if I have a bit of sparkle on me. I’m really trying to get into the dopamine dressing trend - I used to wear such bright interesting colourful and sparkly clothes. But then we had lockdown and I had a baby and comfy clothing was the order of the day! I love oranges and purples and pinks and wearing something colourful always makes me feel brighter. Sometimes little things can make such a difference to our mood.

Between the ages of 3 and 7 I was obsessed with The Little Mermaid. This worship of Ariel appears to have been recently inherited by my 2 year old daughter.

I know recently Disney films have come under criticism for promoting the helpless woman / male rescuer narrative, and TLM in particular for sending a message that women need to change for men.

I have thought about this - isn’t change, really, always necessary? Isn’t that what being in a relationship is about - changing, adapting, compromising to allow the two parties to work together and be happy? Sebastian himself acknowledges that if Ariel were to stay as she was she will be miserable for the rest of her life. So maybe her change is a positive one, allowing her to move forward and help her achieve true happiness rather than just treading water (literally and metaphorically).

Feeling like you need a change? Struggling to put this into action? Does change fee too big and scary so you’re being held back? Get in touch about some counselling - reduced rate offer for new April clients.

Anyone watching The Big Door Prize on Apple TV? I watched the first 3 episodes last night. The premise is a photo booth will tell you your true life potential (magician, teacher, dancer). A lot of people in the show seemed to have an inkling but using the machine gives them the confidence to pursue it.

I think in life in general we often know what we want or need to make us happy and feel more fulfilled but it’s having the confidence to go after it. It can be very easy to stay as we are because implementing a change feels scary.

Do you feel you’re reaching your full life potential? Perhaps you feel you need some extra support to give you the confidence to take steps towards what will make you happy. Counselling can help you with this - together we can explore where you want to be in life and I can support you in trying to bring about positive change.

Please do get in touch for availability. Currently a promotion for all new April clients 6 sessions at a reduced rate of £35.

Went out for Mother’s Day lunch today in Brighton and loved to see how many people had their dogs there with them - even the staff were commenting there were more dogs in than usual. Absolutely love that on Mother’s Day people are keen to make sure their dogs are included.

Dogs are so important to people and really are part of the family. They listen, don’t judge, are always pleased to see us and offer nothing but love in return. All my dog asks for is food, a walk and to throw his ball. Some days a cuddle on the sofa with my pup is all the therapy I need.

Please enjoy the glamorous throwback snap of my own fur baby taking good care of me whilst I was battling morning sickness with my human baby!

Love this photo of my little dog when he was only about 5 months old copying my husband leaning on the fence. Such a good representation how we mimic the behaviour we see. This is really helpful for learning things but it can also be problematic.

Sometimes we find ourselves repeating behaviour we witnessed or experienced in our childhood. We might manage our emotions the same way our Father did, might respond to criticism just like an Auntie, or maybe you people please how your older sibling did.

Counselling can help us to understand our behaviour, why we do it, where it comes from, and how we might change it. Just because someone else did something a certain way doesn’t mean you are destined to copy that behaviour forever. It is possible to break the cycle and develop your own way of being.

Please get in touch if you think counselling might be something you could benefit from.

Who else can relate to this 😂 I certainly find having to think about meals every single day so boring! I find it so stressful if I can’t think of what to cook.

Sometimes it’s the little things in life that cause us the most distress. Making a phone call, filling in a form, filling up with petrol……all might feel like everyday things but for some people can cause such a huge amount of stress, worry and anxiety.

Sometimes knowing where these anxieties come from, why they come and how to manage them can be really useful, and counselling can help to identify this.

Evening and weekend appointments available on zoom. Contact me to book an initial consultation appointment.
