Understanding domestic abuse and trauma 🗣

Domestic abuse isn’t always obvious. It can look like being constantly criticised, controlled, isolated, or made to feel afraid in your own home. Over time, this kind of treatment can make you doubt yourself, feel on edge, or lose your sense of who you are.
If you’ve been through this, the reactions you’re having now—anxiety, guilt, feeling “numb,” trouble trusting, or getting triggered easily—are not weaknesses. They’re trauma responses your body learned to keep you safe in a painful situation.
In therapy, we focus on helping you understand these reactions with compassion. You survived something deeply difficult, and your mind and body are still trying to recover. Healing means slowly rebuilding safety, confidence, and connection with yourself.
You deserve understanding, support, and a space where you don’t have to carry this alone. You’re not “broken”—you’re healing from something that no one should ever have had to endure.

“Does anyone else ever wonder how it gets to that time of day again? Life feels like it’s moving at a super fast pace, and I can’t see it slowing down anytime soon.

If you’re feeling the same, here are some helpful tips to stay grounded:”

🌿 1. Take 60-second pauses
Even one intentional minute can reset your mind. Close your eyes, inhale deeply, and exhale slowly.

📱 2. Do a quick digital declutter
Mute a notification, close a tab, or clear a task. Small resets help reduce overwhelm.

📝 3. Do a “present moment check-in”
Ask yourself: What am I doing? What’s one thing I can feel? One thing I can hear? One thing I can see?

🚶 4. Step outside for fresh air
A 2–5 minute walk or just standing outdoors can break the rush feeling.

☕ 5. Create a micro-routine
Something simple like making tea, stretching, or journaling one sentence brings consistency to a chaotic day.

❤️ 6. Be gentle with yourself
Fast seasons of life happen — grounding isn’t about stopping everything, it’s about staying steady inside it.

I am the founder of White Feather Counselling and Holistic Therapies 🪶. where I offer a compassionate, client-led approach to healing and personal growth. As an Integrative Psychotherapist and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Practitioner, I combine a range of therapeutic methods to meet each client’s unique needs—emotionally, mentally, and energetically.👌
With a strong background in mental health, I support individuals through a wide range of challenges, including trauma, inner child healing, anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, relationship issues, low confidence, and anger. What is Inner Child Work? 🌸

It’s the practice of reconnecting with the younger version of you — the part that still carries old wounds, unmet needs, and also your natural joy + playfulness. 💫

👶 Your inner child is:

The part that felt scared, unseen, or hurt

AND the part that felt wonder, creativity, and freedom

✨ Inner child work means:

Listening to that younger self

Healing old pain with compassion

Reparenting yourself with love & safety

Inviting back your joy, play, and authenticity

It’s about giving yourself now what you needed back then. 💖
