Your friendly neighborhood massage therapist

I began my education in massage therapy in the spring of 2018 attending a workshop in Bristol, UK. I then went home to school in the great state of Utah, where we have strict licensing regulations for work. My school of choice, Healing Mountain School of Massage Therapy included 600 hours of class time, as well as 300 hours of hands-on practical experience in the student clinic before we could graduate. In Utah we have strict standards for licensing before you are allowed to work, including a stressful state board examination. I am proud to say that I have worked hard to earn the title of Licensed Massage Therapist, even if the letters LMT don’t mean a whole lot now that I’ve permanently moved to the UK.

While in school I fell in love with the practical, therapeutic side of massage. I was lucky to secure a job at a well respected studio right out of school where I continued taking any opportunity for extra education that came along. I am now able to offer an array of modalities (styles/types) of massage, the most popular of which is Swedish. I love being able to incorporate bits and pieces of all the different things I’ve learned to create a massage best suited to each individual client. I most often draw from trigger point, Thai yoga, and sports massage, as well as cupping when I get a chance.

Integrity is an important to me both personally and professionally. I believe in making professional recommendations based in science as well as offering my own experience based observations with the disclaimer that that is all they are. I do not believe in trying to sell clients anything, other than my own skills. I take great umbrage when practitioners over sell their abilities, their modalities, or their knowledge. I think there are a lot of great, wide reaching applications for massage, but I don’t expect it to fix everything or replace treatment with a medical professional.

Every session starts with a short intake conversation to make sure that I understand the needs and wants of my client, and they know what to expect from our time. Touch is a powerful, personal experience. In my line of work it is vital that boundaries are always understood and respected. I use modest draping during all sessions, unless they are conducted fully clothed (eg Thai Yoga).
