Biophilia , is the suggestion that there is an instinctive bond between human beings and other living systems. WE BELIEVE THAT...
The Problem;
Life is becoming unsustainable and chaotic. This way of working is becoming increasingly more important as we become more disassociated with our natural world, and with us spiralling into environmental crisis. The children are going to inherit this world
and its problems so arts practices that look at our relationship with nature and the earth we believe is very important at this time. A generation of children that spend more time interacting with technology rather than nature and fellow humans . Many children have not even seen a cow, they don’t recognize any plants or flowers. Our solution;
Staying in touch with the natural rhythms of the earth its cycles and seasons, our innate connection. Making art from nature allows us to return to the essence of the earth itself as a material for art making. Expressing feelings on environment and nature. Creating an appreciation of life and the living world. Creating a ‘SENSE OF WONDER’ Carson. Learning from nature, Children do have a sense of ‘awe and wonder’ about something as simple as a leaf if the interesting things about the leaf are pointed out to them. Natural materials transport children into a world of beauty. Inspired learning from natural world around us, sharing this with everyone. The outdoors can be a centre for learning in all areas. We also encourage art making from recycled materials exploring different ways of reusing and giving life to junk that would be destined for landfill. What we do;
Guided Creative exploration, ephemeral art making, Building imaginary worlds with dens and fairy houses, Workshops that reinforce environmentally conscious ideas and engage the heart. Making art outside as much as possible using natural materials, Creating a safe place for creative engagement. Inspired by therapeutic arts practices, ecology and the ever changing natural world. All inclusive, universal practices that children everywhere big and small can benefit from. Engaging use of five senses and experiential in nature. Direct hands on learning and play experiences, imagination, creativity, adventure and discovery.
