Become a Qualified Forest School Leader, This October!

Great News, our next Nationally recognised Level 2 and 3 Forest School training courses are running this October.

This comprehensive course is designed for individuals passionate about outdoor education who aspire to become qualified Forest School leaders or work in the industry. You’ll gain the skills and knowledge needed to confidently plan, deliver, and assess engaging Forest school sessions, creating immersive outdoor play and learning experiences for children and young people.

If your passionate about the natural world and eager to make a lasting difference in the lives of children, this is the perfect course for you.

The training begins with 5 days of fully immersive learning, followed by 3 fun-packed practical days, culminating in a campfire cooking celebration!

Our course is proudly held at the Laudato Si Centre, a dedicated site for environmental learning. This beautiful location within the Wardley Hall estate offers a sustainably built outdoor classroom, private woodland, and relaxing gardens – providing the ideal space to immerse yourself in the Forest School journey.

Wow, what a great couple of months here at Canopy. We’ve done so much and met and worked with so many fantastic people. Over 14 Emergency First Aid course delivered throughout the North West, portfolio marking for Open Awards, work-based assessments for my Forest School trainees (they smashed it and did me proud), a nice trip back to the Lake District to deliver a Outdoor First Aid course. Even managed to sneak in a family holiday before travelling down to Norfolk and Devon to work at the Gone Wild festivals as an Instructor with Bear Grylls Survival Academy, absolutely amazing. We are now back prepping our next Forest School course in October, I can’t wait.

LOOKING FOR A FAMILY FRIENDLY FESTIVAL THIS SUMMER?

Garry will be at Gone Wild 2025 Festivals in both Norfolk and Devon, working for Bear Grylls Academy!....covering everything from survival shelters to astro navigation, and everything in between...including gross eats! Yum!....there is lots of fun to be had.

***FOREST SCHOOL LEADER LEVEL 3 TRAINING***

We are currently enrolling for our next cohort of Forest School Leader - Level 3 Training.

Are you working in a school and looking to provide outdoor sessions where children can learn, play, explore and grow?...or perhaps you are looking for a career change in outdoor learning?

A mixture of both theory and practical delivery methods, units covered in the training include;

- Supporting learning, play and development in natural environments
- Delivering Forest School
- Observing and evaluating Forest School
- Sustainable use and management of natural resources
- Teaching outdoor practical skills

Throughout the course you will be supported by Garry Roberts and be part of a network of other like-minded individuals who are passionate about sharing their love of the great outdoors!

Theory Training dates: 30th June to 4th July 2025
Practical days: 7th to 9th July 2025

This Mental Health Awareness Week, Canopy is encouraging folks to revisit the 5 ways to well being:

1. Connect
Spend time with someone you love outdoors, perhaps enjoy a cuppa in the garden. Join a social group, e.g. gardening club, walking group, etc. Visit local green spaces.

2. Be Active
Engaging in physical activity outdoors, e.g. walking, running, cycling is a great way to boost your mood and reduce stress.

3. Take notice
Pay attention to the world around you. Complete a mindful practice - four things you can feel, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste.

4. Keep Learning
Learning a new skill can stimulate your mind and boost your confidence. Have a go at something new...ever tried campfire cooking, foraging, drawing something you can see outdoors?

5. Give
Making a positive contribution to anything, can bring a sense of purpose and fulfillment. This could be volunteering to do a litter pick, planting a tree, donating time to a good cause that helps your environment.

Back to back First Aid Courses this week, delivered across Lancashire....some fantastic concentration and effort from participants despite the heat....15 people have gained their qualification already. Well done!
