Dog owners, did you know that the flea treatments we use on our pets might be poisoning our precious waterways? π€―
Fipronil and Imidacloprid are two powerful insecticides that are commonly found in spot-on flea treatments.
Not only do these chemicals kill fleas, but they are also increasingly contaminating our rivers and lakes as our pets go in to swim or are hand washed, allowing the substances to enter the water.
This leeching of chemicals could poison aquatic insects like dragonflies, damselflies, freshwater water beetle larvae and more.
This has knock-on effects for species which feed on these insects and can affect the rest of the food chain, including fish and birds!
Luckily, there's a few simple changes we can make to reduce the risk to the environment, and in our video we share some alternatives that can keep both our pets and wetlands healthy.
Please share to spread awareness with other pet owners you know and together we can make a real change πͺπ»
