I took my dog for ultrasonic teeth cleaning, and the results are amazing – look at her flashing her big, beautiful smile.

We went to Scruffy Woofie in Disley – honestly, they're such a lovely team there. They were gentle and kind with her as she can be a bit more sensitive and fidgety when it comes to this sort of thing, but she handled it well, and I’m so proud of her.

Over the last 10 years, the UK vet world has changed dramatically!

Back in 2013, nearly 90% of vet practices were independently owned – local, personal, prioritised the animals.

Now? Almost 60% of practices are owned by six massive corporate groups. And most of the time, you wouldn’t even know it – they keep the original name on the door so it looks like the same local vet, but behind the scenes it’s totally different.

Here’s who owns most of the UK’s vets now:

👉🏻 IVC Evidensia – Based in Sweden, backed by private equity firm EQT, Nestlé & tech giant Silver Lake.

👉🏻 CVS Group – A UK company with 500+ practices across the country.

👉🏻 Linnaeus – Owned by Mars Inc. (yes, the chocolate and pet food giant from the US).

👉🏻 VetPartners – UK-based, but owned by global investment firm BC Partners.

👉🏻 Medivet – Started in the UK, now owned by CVC Capital Partners, based in Luxembourg.

👉🏻 Vets4Pets (Pets at Home) – UK-based and part of the Pets at Home retail group.

The consequences?

📈 Vet costs have shot up by over 60% since 2015

🧐 Many practices no longer show clear pricing

⌛️ Consults are often rushed

💰 Vets are under pressure to hit financial targets

✨️ Independent practices are being squeezed out

🔥 The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is finally investigating this after 56,000+ public complaints. A decision is due later this year – and your voice matters (see comments on how to add your complaint by 27th May) 🔥

So please don’t be afraid to speak up.
If you’ve had a negative experience, or feel let down, add your voice to the CMA’s feedback. Stand up for better, more transparent, animal-focused care.

And if you still have a good, independent local vet – treasure them. Our pets care is not for profits!!!

Reset. Recharge. Refocus.

Today's the first “me date” I’ve had in a month... and wow, I needed it.

The last few weeks have been hectic - with one thing and another, I haven’t had a chance to catch up with myself. You know when life gets loud, and your energy just feels scattered? That’s been me. 🥴

But today… I pressed pause. I gave myself a whole day to just be; time with myself, my dogs, and what lights me up most.

I started with a slow, meditative Pilates session and some self Reiki to reset, realign, and refocus. And as always, the dogs could feel it. They curled up next to me, soaking it in.

And what a beautiful reminder it was - even when life tries to distract me, I’m always pulled back to this path. With a couple of adjustments to my schedule, I’ve carved out space again and it feels so good, like a fog has cleared

So, I’m officially inviting animal clients (in person or distant) into my world 🙏🏻

🐾 🌞 Keep Your Dog Safe in the Heat! 🌞 🐾

It’s hot, dry, and the UK feels more like Spain right now!

While we’re loving the sunshine, our dogs might not be. They wear their fur coats all year round, and overheating can happen fast. Here's how to keep your dog safe and cool in this heat:

🌞 HOT WEATHER TIPS FOR DOGS:

1️⃣ Walk early or late:
Avoid midday sun. Walk your dog before 9am or after 7pm when it’s cooler. Even better if you can stick to shaded, grassy areas.

2️⃣ Paw pad check:
Tarmac and pavements can burn paws. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their feet. Try the 7-second test: place the back of your hand on the ground. If you can't hold it there comfortably, it’s too hot for a walk.

3️⃣ Keep them cool:
Shade, fresh air and plenty of water are a must. Cool mats, damp towels, or a little paddling pool can help regulate their body temp.

4️⃣ NEVER leave dogs in cars:
Even with windows open, cars become ovens. It takes minutes for a dog to overheat.

5️⃣ Protect the flat-faced breeds, elderly dogs, puppies, and those with health conditions – They're more vulnerable and need extra care and cooler spaces.

🔥 SIGNS OF HEATSTROKE TO WATCH FOR:

Heavy panting or drooling

Lethargy or weakness

Vomiting or diarrhoea

Glazed eyes

Red gums or tongue

Collapsing or wobbling

What to do ⬇️
Move your dog to a shaded, cool area ASAP. Offer small amounts of cool (not ice cold) water. Use a cool, damp towel on their paws, belly, and armpits. Contact your vet immediately... heatstroke can be fatal if not treated quickly.

🙏🏻 One more thing...
💧 Please leave out water bowls for wildlife, Hedgehogs, birds, bees and all the little ones are struggling too. A shallow bowl with clean water can be a lifesaver.

It breaks my heart to say this, but gone are the days when most UK vets were independently owned and truly had the freedom to do what was best for both the animal and their humans.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG TO THE VET FOR TEETH CLEANING!!!!

I didn’t want to put Dolly through a vet dental treatment to clean thick tartar off her back teeth. I didn’t want her having general anaesthetic drugs, worrying and waiting all day, and then receiving an insane bill at the end of it (£500-£700! ) 😩.

There had to be a better way… and there is!

We’re so used to thinking only vets can handle dog teeth cleaning - but times have changed. THANK GOD ! Unless your dog has damaged or infected teeth (which needs a vet), ultrasonic cleaning is a fantastic alternative.

🦷 It removes even thick, built-up tartar without stress, drugs, or a hefty bill!

Emotional well-being in our dogs

They feel more than we sometimes realise.
They pick up on our moods, absorb tension in the home, and can also carry their own traumas or emotional baggage.

This is where Reiki comes in.

CRACKING UP 🥚🐾

Eggshell is a calcium goldmine for dogs.

When ground into a fine powder, it becomes a natural calcium supplement that helps support healthy bones, teeth, and muscle function... especially important if you’re feeding your dog a homemade diet.

Let me tell you about Bertie 🐾

He’s a sweet, gentle soul, 8 years old, with stiff hips and a bit of anxiety around being touched.

His human came to me unsure if anything would help. They’d been to the vet, tried pain meds, but didn’t want him on tablets long-term.

We started with a few simple changes:

🤎 Bone broth every morning

💚 A sprinkle of green-lipped mussel in his dinner

🌈 Reiki once a week to help him settle and soften

The result?

Within 3 weeks, he was moving more freely. Sleeping better. Even started playing with his ball again. And his human said he looked happier, calmer and lighter.

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on why I chose to follow this quiet, soul-deep pull toward helping animals.

The truth is, this work is about presence.
About coming back to ourselves through the animals we love.

When I sit with a dog, place my hands over them, and feel their energy shift… something inside me shifts too. It’s a two-way healing. Every single time.

Animals don’t pretend.
They don’t push.
They don’t people-please.
They just are.
And helping them heal, whether through Reiki, nutrition, or just mindful time together - it's an honour.

I know not everyone “gets” what I do.
That’s okay.
It’s not flashy.
It’s not loud.
But it’s real.
And it’s needed.

I’m officially qualified as an Animal Reiki Practitioner!

This has been a journey that’s unfolded over the past few months, starting with Reiki 1 & 2 (Usui), and then deepening into Animal Reiki.

And now, it’s official… and I couldn’t be more excited (and honestly, a little emotional) to share this with you.

The truth is, this path started with heartbreak 💔
When my little Timmy was in his final months, I watched him go through so much - his little body pumped full of medication, and me feeling utterly helpless. I would’ve done anything to bring him comfort, to ease his pain, to support him, to do something to help him.

After he passed, I made a promise to get myself in a position to be able to help other animals.

I’ve immersed myself in canine nutrition, communication & behaviour … and now, Reiki healing for animals. Whether in-person, over video, or even as distant energy healing - Animal Reiki is a beautiful, non-invasive way to help bring balance to their mind, body, and spirit.

It can ease stress, calm anxiety, support physical recovery, emotional healing (rescues), and bring deep relaxation. It’s gentle. It’s safe. It’s powerful. And most importantly, it works on their terms, respecting their boundaries and energy.
