Why do you go quiet…
even when you know exactly what you want to say?

I see this a lot.

You’re in the moment.
You know what you want to say.

And then… nothing.

Later, it’s all you can think about.

“Why didn’t I just say it?”

Most people think this is a confidence problem.

But it usually isn’t.

Underneath it tends to be:
overthinking
self-doubt
fear of getting it wrong

Patterns your brain has learned over time.

So no matter how much you try to push through…
it keeps happening.

But when that starts to change, something shifts.

You don’t go quiet in the same way.
You don’t second guess yourself as much.
Things feel calmer. More natural.

If this feels familiar, you’re not the only one.

“I just overthink everything.”

I hear this all the time.

Going over conversations.
Thinking about what might happen.
Second guessing decisions.

It feels constant.
And exhausting.

But overthinking isn’t really the problem.

It’s something your brain has got used to doing.

Usually as a way of trying to stay in control
or avoid getting things wrong.

The issue is, it doesn’t feel helpful.
It just keeps you stuck in your head.

You don’t need to “switch your brain off”.

You need your mind to respond differently.

So things feel calmer.
Clearer.
Less overwhelming.

“Starting again on Monday.”

It sounds familiar for a reason.

You start the week well.
Feel in control.
Make good choices.

Then something shifts.

You’re tired.
Stressed.
Life gets busy.

And suddenly it’s,
“I’ll start again next week.”

It’s frustrating because you know what to do.

You just can’t seem to stick to it.

That’s usually the point people turn on themselves.

But it’s not a lack of discipline.

Your brain has got used to certain patterns.
And those patterns kick in when things feel harder.

That’s why it feels inconsistent.

When those patterns change, things stop feeling like such a battle.

Stopping smoking isn’t about willpower.

Most people already know that, deep down.

You don’t wake up thinking,
“I want to keep doing this.”

You’ve probably tried before.
Started strong. Meant it.

And then something pulled you back.

That’s the bit people don’t understand.

It’s not about trying harder.

Your brain has just got used to certain moments linking to smoking:
after food
when you’re stressed
when you finally sit down

So it goes there automatically.

Not because you want it to.
Because it’s familiar.

Once that shifts, things feel very different.

Quitting stops being a constant fight.
And starts to feel possible.

If your mind won’t switch off at night, there’s usually a reason.

You’re tired.

But the second you get into bed, your brain wakes up.

Running through the day.
Thinking about tomorrow.
Bringing up things you haven’t thought about in years.

And you’re lying there thinking,
“why can’t I just sleep?”

The more you try, the worse it feels.

This isn’t you doing something wrong.

It’s your brain getting used to:
bed = thinking time

So it keeps doing it.

Sleep isn’t something you can force.

But when that pattern changes, it starts to happen more naturally.

And that’s when things begin to feel easier.

This week I was featured in a leadership article talking about something I see all the time in teams.

Psychological safety.

It sounds like a simple idea, but it’s often what’s missing.

Most people already have ideas.
They already have opinions.

They’re just not always shared.

Not because people don’t care.
And not because they lack confidence.

But because it doesn’t feel safe to speak.

What I notice with people is that they’re constantly reading the room.

“Will this be shut down?”
“Will I be judged?”
“Is it easier to just stay quiet?”

And over time, that shapes behaviour.

Psychological safety is about creating an environment where people feel:
– valued
– able to contribute
– and able to take risks without fear of criticism

That doesn’t happen by accident.

It comes from how leaders show up.

Making space for quieter voices.
Listening properly.
Being open to different perspectives.
Admitting mistakes.

Small things, but they change everything.

Because when people feel safe, they don’t need to be pushed to speak.

They naturally do.

Most people I speak to aren’t lacking willpower.
They’re stuck in patterns they don’t understand.

I see this a lot.

People who say:
“I know what I should be doing… I just can’t stick to it”
“I keep going back to old habits”
“I can’t switch my mind off”
“I’ve tried before and it didn’t work”

And it’s frustrating.
Because it feels like you’re the problem.

But you’re not.

Your brain has learned patterns that keep pulling you back.
And until those patterns change, nothing really sticks.

This is where I help.

I work with people to:
– stop smoking and va**ng
– improve sleep
– change eating and habit patterns
– feel calmer and more in control
– build confidence and perform at their best

Using Clinical Psychology and Hypno-CBT, we focus on creating real, lasting change.
Not just short-term fixes.

Imagine waking up and not thinking about ci******es.
Going to bed without your mind racing.
Feeling back in control of your choices again.

That’s what we’re working towards.

If you’re feeling stuck, you’re not alone.
And you’re not beyond help.

You just need a different way forward.

If this resonates, comment “CHANGE” and I’ll send you the link to book a free call.

Yay I'm up for a Best Equestrian Hypnotherapist Award. Go me...
EXCEPT my colleague from the The UK College of Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy nominated me in a category he invented. Just to raise awareness of the utter nonsense that is the vanity awards business. So next time you see someone proudly trumpeting some award or other, maybe think twice about viewing that as particularly impressive. Anyway I will let you know if I win! 😅😅😅

Hello Krissie,

Another week, some more great feedback:

"The difference in a single session was amazing. In hypnosis I felt so confident riding, then I just went and rode like that. I don't think I have ever felt so relaxed or positive in a lesson before'.

"I feel back to my old self. Thank-you so much".
