ANSWER: Sharpening does not always make a blade work better.
WHY IS THIS?
Sharpening removes metal & most likely changes the profile of the blade edge enough to make a difference (not in a good way!) unless you have the skill to recreate the blade to the original edge and geometry.
Even doing this correctly you cannot prevent the loss of the thin edge.
The blade edge becomes THICKER every time you sharpen, making it harder to enter the periodontal ligament space.
N.B. This does not just apply to Dentanomic blades.
The beauty of Dentanomic blades is that YOU DO NOT NEED TO SHARPEN them!
They have been designed to be easily replaced on our auto-replacement reorder program, taking the time and effort out of the process.
THIS (along with our super thin edges and precision technique) gives you the 30-50% faster extractions needed.
Honing can be performed as a first-aid technique if you accidentally bend or drop a blade.
