I can't emphasise this enough, we've always been here! The only difference is that we are now getting the 'label' we deserve 🤍

I can’t say this enough- an increase in diagnoses does not actually mean there’s an increase in Autistic people.

Could there be an increase in true prevalence? Sure. But it’s not the only explanation - and more importantly it’s not the most supported one.

What we do know:
✅ Many kids diagnosed today wouldn’t have been identified 30-40 years ago. Really even 10-20 years ago.
✅ Adults are being diagnosed at dramatically higher rates, especially women, BIPOC, and nonspeaking or multiply disabled individuals. You could even say these are “skyrocketing” 🧐
✅ Diagnosis depends on access, awareness, and clinical understanding. Which anyone familiar with high masking Autism will tell you is hard to find today.

Autistic people have always been here. Long before the term was clinically described in 1925. We’re not new. We’re just finally being seen.
