Not all heroes wear capes -well they do at Sew Positive!
volunteer Danny whizzed up a cape tonight for his dog Bella for 🏳️🌈❤️
And participant Garry went on the Men’s Health Forum course to become a with our friends at Cambridge United Foundation. This means he can bring back knowledge to the group, other men and the wider community, and start to have peer to peer support conversations around Men’s Health. He’s already come up with brilliant ways that he’s putting to the group to implement his learning. 💪🏼🙌🤩
Not only that, the group are progressing with their shirts, and there are now a number of burrito methods happening, facings completed, collars made,
pockets going on, and even some sleeves. Under the brilliant tuition of Colin, the group have been so encouraging to each other, new folks have joined and everyone going at their own pace, which is so important in a participant-led group.
At Sew Basic this week we’ve seen so much wonderful creativity. It’s week 6 and folks are already starting to find different ways to express their individuality so much! In these wonderful Japanese rice bags that are taking shape, lots of different skills and techniques with such fabulous results.
Both groups have been telling us how they feel the creative opportunities to learn and develop with other people experiencing difficulties similar to theirs, have meant it’s created a special and safe place that has been really unique. New friendships are beginning. Extended learning and support for peers is happening. New social habits are forming and confidence and mental health steps are progressing. Folks are telling us how difficult it is to find things like this when so many other things haven’t really worked, and how it’s become so important to have this.
But Sew Basic ends in two weeks and we have to begin the whole funding cycle again. If medication like antidepressants was only offered for 8 weeks how would you feel?
