When did you last review your disbudding protocol?

A calf unit in Northamptonshire switched to using Ambugreen on every disbud site for a batch of 40 calves last summer. Instead of the usual antibiotic spray, they applied a thin layer of Ambugreen, a durable, waterproof gel barrier to protect the disbudding site.

Their vet tech came back at day 7 and found:
✅ 98% of sites healed or healing well
✅ 0 infections
✅ 0 fly-related problems
✅ No knock to growth rates

For context, disbud sites typically take 54 to 63 days to fully heal, so seeing 98% progressing well at day 7 is well ahead of that curve.

82 g from one 110 g tube covered all 40 calves, whereas their usual protocol would have used 1.5 to 2 full aerosol cans for the same group.

🐑 Are you a sheep farmer? We need your help.

Lambing season is one of the most demanding times in any farmer's calendar, and in recent years, the pressures have only intensified. Schmallenberg and Bluetongue, disrupted vaccine supplies, unpredictable weather... the challenges are real and they're growing.

That's why we're proud to be supporting the UK Lambing Survey 2026, an industry-wide effort led by the University of Nottingham and Fiona Lovatt of Flock Health Ltd to capture what's actually happening on farms across the UK this lambing season.

The survey takes just 12 minutes, all responses are completely anonymous, and the findings will directly shape antibiotic stewardship targets for the sheep sector.

Lambing is underway for and we’re straight into the routine. 🐑

Straight after birth, protection matters most. 🐑

When this ewe lambs with triplets, moves her into a pen to bond and dips each navel with NoBACZ Navel straight away.

Orf lesions are simply difficult to manage.

Particularly around the mouth and teats, where traditional bandaging isn’t practical.

In work presented at international veterinary conferences and reported in the veterinary press, hydrophobic gel barrier use on lesions during outbreaks was associated with:
• Drier, more stable scabs
• Fewer secondary infections reported
• Lambs appearing more comfortable and maintaining feed intake
