🏛️ Did you know that Tunisia have their own Colosseum? 😲😵💫
Yes, me too, I thought Rome had the only one, well apparently the Romans quite liked Tunisia for its fertile soil & created quite a few monumental buildings, large and impressive in the standard Roman fashion. - (now archeological / UNESCO world heritage sites ! )
Of course the El Jem is not quite as big as Rome’s one but it is awe inspiring all the same.
Frankly I had no idea Tunisia had such a deep, eclectic, and colourful history. Over the centuries there were settlers from Spain, (Andalusia to be specific) , The Romans, Ottomans Empire & more. The land is fertile meaning it was perfect for feeding an empire and a lot of farmers lived, worked and harvested the land there. Hence why there’s such physical structures here.
Another aspect of Tunisian history which I was dumbfounded with was the artistic nature of the mosaic buildings there. Created by a prominent artist & his followers, during the same period as the Romans, people would come and sit and watch as he created his next masterpiece - sometimes for months.
So now whenever I see mosaics show up in fashion or interior design I will think of Tunisia. That and ceramics of course🥹 (another post on that later!)
Here are a list of the archeological sites I visited as seen in order in the video. Enjoy ❤️ & when you get a chance , Visit Tunisia 🇹🇳🥹, you won’t regret it !
