On reflection, my first memory of anything to do with the spirit world would have been when I was 3 or 4 years old. I was sat at the bottom of our stairs playing with a piece of wool (my mum used to knit quite a lot at that time). I remember she had my brother Steven in the pram and was going out of the back door (opposite side of the house to where I was sat). I remember her shouting me to hurry up as we were off to see Grandma who lived in Wheatley. I heard the noise of thunder ( it was maybe the hot water tank bubbling in hindsight) but what I saw at the top of the stairs as I looked up has stayed with me throughout my life. It was something I can only describe as a metal teddy bear as tall as a man and stood on a metal square block. I was not frightened and did not even question it. Mum was shouting again and again which was unusual in itself as she only had to speak and we did as we were told. Neither me nor Thunder (the metal teddy bear) spoke verbally but it was as if we had an understanding of each other, although at the same time feeling inquisitive. I knew I was safe and had nothing to fear. As mum was shouting me I reluctantly made a move. We walked over the North Bridge to walk towards Wheatley. As we came into Wheatley somewhere along Beckett Road, we called into a corner shop with steps (I now know which shop it was). Whilst in there I heard the same noise I associated with Thunder and tried to run around the red rope they had tied around the poles so there would be no entry to their living quarters. Mum was shouting telling me had not to go around there, as I was frantically trying to explain and to catch a glimps of Thunder again. Unfortunately mum and the shop keeper had their way and it was not to be. I remember feeling very sad and disappointed that I had missed him.
