Do you know what you're dressing your little pumpkin up in?

The spookiest night of the year is approaching, but Halloween could become a horror story if you aren't careful.

Halloween costumes are often classed as toys, meaning they aren't subject to the same fire safety checks as normal clothing.

This means Halloween costumes often burn quickly or melt, as seen in this picture. We encourage you to make sure your child is wearing normal clothing underneath their costume so there's something between them and their costume if it catches fire.

You can also swap your candles for electric lights instead, reducing the fire risk to your household and family.

If you're an adult, avoid drinking around candles, especially if you're looking after a little vampire, Save the witches' brew for somewhere without fire.

Finally, if a costume does catch fire, remember to stop, drop, and roll. Speak to your children too, it might seem like common knowledge to you but it's always best to inform your child of fire safety advice.

+6 months on from this amazing report, we're continuing to deliver the highest standards in prehospital emergency care. MERTS offers a learner experience that 'breaks out of the classroom' and ditches the death by PowerPoint, as our training team have nearly 60 years of teaching experience between them, with just as much from the frontline. Did you know, all of our paramedics and trainers work directly on the fronline of 999 response, with the Welsh and UK Ambulance services.

We're proud to share that our most recent (March '25) External Quality Assurance report from Qualsafe commented that we are,

πŸ‘₯πŸ’¬ "A high-quality centre with a genuinely motivated and professional team."

πŸ’¬πŸ‘₯ "An excellent working partner of Qualsafe Awards."

If the Awarding Organisation's Quality Assurance statement isn't enough, watch this space! Over the next few weeks, we'll be sharing what our learners have to say, regarding their experience as a learner with MERTS and why they believe that we excel at what we do.

Book your next course with a centre that lives up to their values.
Ours are ● Respect ● Integrity ● Service ● Excellence

Fantastic news πŸ’ͺ

Would you know how to respond in an emergency?

Drivers are often first on the scene when someone suffers a cardiac arrest, meaning that knowing CPR could save a life.

If done effectively, it can more than double the chance of someone surviving a cardiac arrest, which is why from 2026 the theory test will include CPR and defibrillator questions.

As part of the changes, car and motorcycle theory test candidates will need to familiarise themselves with CPR techniques and how to use automated external defibrillators.

We love teaching first aid but when it comes to event medical services, there's no substitute for the professionalism of prehospital clinicians from an experienced team.

What most clients (and patients) don't realise is the importance of robust clinical governance. Without it, you're just getting the 'frills and tassels' and someone dressed to impress.

When you and book with MERTS, you can expect to see our values in practice,

βœ…οΈ Respect
βœ…οΈ Integrity
βœ…οΈ Service
βœ…οΈ Excellence ...
