It may be helpful for you to learn of my own experience of Hypnotherapy. Like many people I was a little apprehensive. I had so many ideas of what hypnotherapy was about. I thought I would be completely out of it and when I come round I would have no recollection of what had happened but I would be ‘cured.’ I felt a little fearful also as I had the belief I would be in a vulnerable position, handing my mind over to someone else to control. What if I came out and randomly started clucking like a chicken throughout my day! However, I was curious and desperate and if nothing else I’d get a good hours sleep, which seemed very appealing at that point in my life. Oh how wrong could I be!! On my first visit for hypnotherapy, truth be known I was disappointed. I walked into the room and there was no couch for me to lie on. There was just an armchair not even a pouffe for me to rest my legs! When the hypnosis session started I can say I felt relaxed and calm but for a while I was waiting for the slipping off into sleep bit. I was convinced it wasn’t working. I mean, I could hear her voice, I knew I was still in the chair, in the room and dammit she was even getting me to speak! Not what I had anticipated at all but I went with it and at the end I told the therapist “I would give her a call to arrange a further appointment.” (Yeah right!)
However in the days which followed I noticed a change within myself which I couldn’t quite put my finger on but in a good way. I know I felt calmer and for the first time in years that night I had slept a lot better. So I made a further appointment and continued for the recommended sessions by which point I was a convert and decided I would study Hypnotherapy myself.
