Facebook asked what’s on my mind, so I’ll share.
This year, I’m feeling more frustrated than ever with how extreme Halloween decorations have become. It feels like a contest to see who can make things the most gruesome or terrifying, and honestly, I find it pretty unpleasant. Instead, I choose to celebrate values like goodness, love, and light.
I’ve taken time to teach my kids about the original purpose of Halloween—praying for the well-being of departed souls—something meaningful that has since been overshadowed by all the shock value. That connection to the mysteries of life and death once felt sweet and reflective to me.
As I have done for the past 13 years, I’ll be celebrating Diwali on November 1st. Known as the Festival of Lights, it honors the triumph of light over darkness and marks Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya. Diwali aligns with the darkest night of the Hindu lunar month of Kartik, a time to reflect on inner light.
Wishing everyone a happy and bright Diwali!
