Across the United Kingdom it is Baby Loss Awareness Week until the 15th of October. This is something we have at the front of our minds as before starting Ivor Thomas Funerals, Mark was a Funeral Arranger for Babies and Children. Without what he witnessed in that job, he would’ve never started his own funeral business with the family being the main concern.

This is a movement that is now in its 22nd year where everyone within the baby loss community and beyond unite to remember and commemorate our much-loved and missed babies.
It is also a week of spreading awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss, and how important correct bereavement support is during these times. This is done by public outreach and hosting events all over the UK, including some in Cardiff. Details to these events will be on their website below.

Win a night out on us!!!

For the Charity event on Friday, we will be giving away a pair of tickets.

It is taking place at 7pm on Friday the 3rd October at the Whitchurch Rugby Club where there will be a Tombola and a Raffle.

It will be a fantastic evening with the amazing Cardiff Male Choir entertaining us and is all in aid of Brawd and Cwtch Together.

Along with a ticket, you will also get a complimentary drink to start your evening.

Ivor Thomas Funerals is filled with talented individuals. One of the first is Neil who is an incredibly experienced woodworker, which we use to its full effect! He has made us a line of handmade keepsakes which we will be showing to you over the coming weeks.

This one is called the Cathryn. It is made from one piece of Beech wood which is grown locally within South Wales. It’s a beautiful piece of work with a nice finish and simplistic yet classy look.

On Friday the 3rd October at 7pm, the Cardiff Male Choir is holding a charity night at the Whitchurch Rugby Club.

This will involve a tombola and a raffle, where the prizes are:
1st – Dinner & Theatre tickets for two people
2nd – Four tickets to Everyman Theatre

The event is in aid of Cwtch Together and Brawd.

Cwtch Together is a disability play project held in the centre of Cardiff which promotes inclusive play and socialisation for disabled children and their families.

Brawd is a compassionate group of people with one common interest. To help and support men’s wellbeing through positive engagement. Their mission is to create a men’s mental health community in every borough in Wales.

HOT CROSS BUN DAY!!!!!!

In a world that can be very demanding and stressful, it is important to remember that you deserve a break. This is why we feel like everyone should celebrate days like this.

FUN FACT:
Back in the 16th century, many people believed that Hot Cross Buns had healing powers. It was also illegal to sell hot cross buns unless it was for Christmas, the Friday before Easter, or a funeral.

If you don’t like Hot Cross Buns, then just use it as an excuse to go easy on yourself today.

Death is a difficult topic of discussion, especially within families. At Ivor Thomas Funerals, we understand that and want to make sure that you have the send off that you want.

This is why we offer a Funeral Planning Booklet, which you can complete at your own pace. If wanted, we can sit down with you and help you complete the booklet to make sure your answers don’t get misinterpreted. It asks you all the questions a funeral director will ask and lets you know what you have control over regarding your funeral.

Once completed, you will hold onto it making sure that the right people know where it is when the day comes that it needs to be used. As an extra precaution, we can also hold onto a copy of it in our office so you know that your wishes will be fulfilled.

MEET THE TEAM TUESDAY!!!

Introducing......Oli

Hailing from Brighton, Oli is our youngest member of the Ivor Thomas Team. Due to his age, he is currently in university studying economics but does not let this commitment affect his work and remains helpful and professional. Within the company, Oli helps out with paperwork and at funerals but is also our Community Outreach Officer, posting on our social media. Before starting work in the funeral business at 17, he was a fully qualified lifeguard at his local open-air pool. When not working or at university, Oli plays the ukulele which he taught himself during quarantine, along with playing squash for his uni team and attending tap dance classes every week. Being the only employee from Generation Z, Oli brings a different outlook and perspective to how the funeral business works, especially how daunting it seems towards younger people. He is a well-respected and helpful honorary member of the Ivor Thomas Family.

We are glad to be a part of a raffle run by Catherine Smith of which the proceeds are going to charity.

MEET THE TEAM TUESDAY!!!

Introducing......Lew!!!

Although being our newest team member, Lew has already integrated with ease and is a full member of the Ivor Thomas Family. He primarily provides back of house care but often can be seen helping at funeral services as well. Before venturing into the funeral industry, Lew was a self-taught pianist, sound technician, and even a celebrant. On the side he also has a wine-making business which everyone at Ivor Thomas Funerals enjoys. When not working, he is a scout leader affectionately referred to as Bear by his scouts along with a passionate musician, knowing how to play a plethora of different instruments (which he loves to bring out at work events). During the rare times he isn’t doing anything, he loves spending time with his dog and his partner at home. Lew has brought a new point of view to the funeral business for us and is an incredibly valuable member of the team.

Introducing......Dave!!!

Dave is not a member of the Ivor Thomas family but may as well be since he has been a family friend for almost 2 decades. He is the longest serving employee at the company who isn’t a member of the Thomas family, bringing countless hours of experience from his previous jobs working in banks and as a ship’s agent. In his free time, Dave enjoys being outside, whether that’s playing golf or going for a nice walk around Roath Park. When not doing either of these, he travels over to Canada to see his son and take photos of wild bears to show the rest of us. Within the company he is our Lead Bearer and does a fantastic job making sure everything goes right on the day and keeping everyone informed and professional. He is a joy in and out of the office, and is our go-to person when it comes to organisation.
