This is a beautiful little story Which has a lot of truth in it
O Best Beloved, there once lived a very small but very curious Mouse. He was not an ordinary Mouse, oh no. He lived beneath the grand Old Oak, whose roots stretched out like wise fingers across the Glen. This Mouse, as curious as a starling and as clever as a magpie, had a fondness for reading the newspaper. He would scurry to the post hollow each morning to fetch the Daily Glen Gazette, his whiskers twitching with anticipation for the latest news.
One crisp morning, as the sky was blushing with the first pinks of dawn, Mouse sat under Old Oak with his paper spread wide. The headline read, "How to Greet the Day Like a Wise Owl and Industrious Bee." Mouse’s round ears perked up at once.
“Hmph,” he said aloud, smoothing a paw over the page. “I can greet the morning, but never in such grand style. I nibble my breakfast, scurry about, and somehow the day gets away from me.” He sighed, his little tail curling thoughtfully. “If only I could meet Good Morning herself. Surely she could teach me the secrets of a splendid day.”
Now, O Best Beloved, it is not every Mouse who gets to meet Good Morning, for she is a busy and elusive being. But Mouse was determined. So, he folded his paper neatly, tucked it under one arm, and scurried off to find her.
He found Good Morning atop a hill, painting the sky with her radiant brush. The colours swept from pale gold to rosy pink, her strokes as soft as the whispers of dawn.
Mouse, with all the courage his tiny heart could muster, stood on his hind legs and squeaked, “O Glorious Good Morning, I have read about the ways of the wise owl and the industrious bee. Will you teach me how to greet the day as splendidly as they do?”
Good Morning turned to him, her light spilling gently across the hills and trees. “Why, Little Mouse,” she said, her voice as warm as sunlight, “I shall gladly teach you. But first, tell me—what does a morning in the life of a curious Mouse look like?”
Mouse wriggled his nose. “I wake with the first light, stretch my paws, and yawn. Sometimes, I stay cosy in my nest, reading the Gazette, but often I nibble a quick breakfast of seeds or crumbs and scurry off without much thought. I don’t think I’ve ever had a splendid morning.”
Good Morning smiled. “Ah, Little Mouse, let us craft a morning routine for you, one that will make your tiny heart leap with joy and set you on a path as grand as the owl’s wisdom and the bee’s industry.”
The Morning Routine of a Very Curious Mouse:
The Stretch and Yawn
“Begin your day,” said Good Morning, “as you always do, with a stretch and a yawn. Let your little limbs feel the wonder of waking. Stretch as though you are reaching for the stars.”
Mouse practised at once, his tiny toes pointing, his tail curling, and his ears twitching. “Like this?” he asked.
“Perfect,” said Morning.
The Dance of Joy:
“Before you touch your newspaper,” continued Morning, “do a little dance. Let your paws scamper and twirl, for joy is the best way to begin a day.”
Mouse wiggled and twirled until his whiskers quivered with delight.
The Breakfast of Energy:
“Next,” said Morning, “choose a breakfast that will fill you with energy. Fresh fruits and nuts are best, for they will make you sprightly. Avoid too much cheese, Little Mouse—it will make you sleepy.”
Mouse nodded, imagining a plate of berries and almonds.
A Moment with the World:
“Once you are fed,” Morning said, “take a moment to sit quietly with your Gazette beneath Old Oak. Read a story that inspires you, and let the stillness of the morning settle into your heart.”
Mouse twitched his ears. “A still moment with my paper—what a grand idea!”
A Purposeful Start:
“When you rise,” Morning continued, “choose your task with purpose. Will you gather seeds today? Explore a new nook in the Glen? Build upon your nest? Let each step be taken with intent.”
“I shall do this,” declared Mouse. “Every crumb shall have its place, and every scurry shall have its reason.”
The Scamper of Renewal:
“Midway through your morning,” Morning added, “take a break to scamper and play. Let your paws dart through the grass and your heart sing with freedom.”
Mouse giggled, imagining himself darting between dandelions and daisies.
Reflection and Planning:
“As the morning ends,” said Morning, “pause again. Reflect on what you have done and what remains to be done. Let this moment guide the rest of your day.”
Mouse’s whiskers twitched with determination. “I shall reflect and plan like the cleverest of creatures.”
And so, O Best Beloved, Mouse followed Good Morning’s advice. Each dawn, he greeted the day with a stretch and a dance, a wholesome breakfast, and a moment of quiet reading. His tasks were purposeful, his play joyful, and his reflections wise.
Before long, the other creatures of the Glen began to say, “There goes Mouse! He is as industrious as the bee and as wise as the owl.” And Mouse, with his newspaper under one arm and a bright smile on his whiskered face, became the happiest little mouse in the glen.
And that is how the Mouse learned to greet the day.
And the Glen sighed, contented, for all was well.
