Our nursery chickens have settled into their new home. Our nursery pets offer so many learning opportunities for our children.
Caring for the chickens helps children develop empathy and compassion, as well as an understanding of how to nurture animals.
They can also help to support their speech and communication skills, as they talk about what they are seeing and what the chickens are doing. children will also ask questions about the chickens, building upon their vocabulary and confidence in speaking.
Chickens needs a lot of care, which helps children learn the importance of routines, responsibilities and completing tasks.
For some of our children, they have watched our chicken grow from a tiny chick to the chickens they are today, learning about their life cycle.
Animals can have a calming effect. Spending time with our chickens often helps children manage their emotions and feel grounded.
