Norovirus update: Some wards that were temporarily closed because of incidences of norovirus at Prince Philip Hospital and Withybush Hospital have now reopened.

However three wards at Bronglais remain closed today 27 May 2026.

We continue to ask visitors to only attend sites if they are well as cases of norovirus are still circulating in the community.

Some essential visiting will be allowed at Bronglais Hospital in exceptional circumstances. We are asking visitors to contact the wards or hospital switchboard for further guidance.

The restrictions will be in place until further notice, and the situation will be monitored on a regular basis.

Warmer weather is finally here so if you’re heading out to enjoy our beautiful countryside, coast and beaches this weekend, or simply spending time in the garden, make the most of it safely.

Here are our top tips to stay sun safe:
• Seek shade - the sun’s UV rays are strongest between 11am and 3pm, so take regular breaks in the shade.
• Cover up - loose clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and UV-protective sunglasses can help protect your skin and eyes.
• Don’t forget sunscreen - apply plenty and reapply regularly, especially after swimming, sweating, or towel drying.

Because of incidences of norovirus, we are temporarily closing wards at Prince Philip Hospital, Bronglais Hospital and Withybush Hospital from today, 22 May 2026. We are asking visitors to only attend sites if they are well.

The decision to temporarily close the wards to all but essential visitors has been taken due to cases of norovirus circulating in wards at hospital sites and in the community.

Some essential visiting will be allowed in exceptional circumstances. We are asking visitors to contact the wards or hospital switchboard for further guidance.

The restrictions will be in place until further notice, and the situation will be monitored on a regular basis.

22/05/2026

At our meeting on 28 May, our Board will consider plans to launch a second phase of consultation on the future of stroke services across Hywel Dda. We need to change the way stroke services are delivered so they are safe, sustainable, accessible and kind for our patients and staff.

This follows the first phase of our Clinical Services Plan consultation and decisions made at our Extraordinary Board meeting in February 2026.

A decision was made on the future of eight of the Clinical Service Plan services, but no decision was made regarding the future of stroke services.

If our Board decide to give their support to this second phase, it will focus on how stroke services could be provided across our four main hospital sites and we will be seeking your views on the preferred option for future stroke services.

The preferred option has been developed by bringing together two alternative ideas proposed by our communities during the first phase of consultation and would include:

• a 24-hour acute stroke and rehabilitation unit at Glangwili Hospital
• a stroke rehabilitation unit at Bronglais Hospital
• a treat and transfer for stroke provided from Bronglais, Prince Philip and Withybush hospitals

If approved, the consultation will launch on 28 May 2026 and run until 26 July 2026.
