IBS is far more than “a bit of a sensitive stomach.”
For many people, it brings daily discomfort, unpredictable flare‑ups, and a level of distress that quietly shapes work, relationships, and confidence. It’s a condition that affects both the body and the mind - and that’s exactly why gut‑directed hypnotherapy can be so effective.
IBS is now understood as a disorder of gut–brain interaction. When that communication becomes dysregulated, symptoms can intensify. Research shows that gut‑directed hypnotherapy can help calm this system, reduce sensitivity, and ease symptoms such as pain, bloating, diarrhoea, and constipation.
As someone trained in hypnotherapy for IBS, I’ve supported many clients who felt exhausted, restricted, or overwhelmed by their symptoms. Watching them re‑engage with life again - with more ease, more predictability, and a renewed sense of confidence - is one of the most rewarding parts of this work.
A small, useful tip for this month:
Place one hand on your belly and one on your chest.
Breathe in slowly through your nose and let the lower hand rise first. This gentle “belly‑first” breath can help settle the nervous system, which in turn may reduce the intensity of IBS symptoms. Simple, but often surprisingly soothing.
If you’re living with IBS, please know you’re not imagining it, you’re not overreacting, and you’re not alone. There are approaches that can help — and hypnotherapy is one of them.
If you’d like to explore this work in a supportive way, you’re welcome to join my monthly Deep Pause relaxation sessions. They’re not IBS‑specific, but they offer a calm space to soften the stress response that so often fuels symptoms. Or please do get in touch for a chat.
