Building Resilience in Service Families

Being a parent in a military-connected family means navigating change, uncertainty, and emotional challenges. Resilience is the ability to adapt, recover, and grow through these experiences—and it’s something we can nurture in ourselves and our children.

We are here to support you!

As part of our week spotlighting the role of the Service Children’s Champion, we’re sharing how this unique position supports military-connected children across North Yorkshire.

I am so proud to be part of this event, liaising and connecting the Service Children's Community Choir with various schools and community groups. Catterick Garrison has a rich and diverse community and it will be wonderful to see them working together to provide some Christmas joy. A huge thank you to The Garden Rooms at Tennants for their support and for agreeing to host the concert and to Councillor Kevin Foster for agreeing to donate some locality funding to ensure the concert is able to go ahead.
The evening will involve singing, comedy, soloists and fun. Show your support this Christmas be joining us for 'A Christmas Cracker!'

From my first teaching post to becoming North Yorkshire’s Service Children’s Champion I have certainly had an interesting journey along the way and have met some wonderful people and taught the most incredible children and young people.

As the new school year begins, I want every Service child to know:
💙 You are seen.
💙 You are supported.
💙 You belong.

Whether you're starting school for the first time or settling into a new one, this is a reminder that your experiences matter—and there are people walking beside you every step of the way.

🌟 Supporting Military Families – Learning to Make a Difference 🌟

As the Service Children’s Champion, I’m always looking for ways to better support our incredible military families. That’s why I’ve recently started the Parenting Apart Programme – a specialist training designed to help professionals understand and support families navigating separation.

Military life can bring unique challenges, and I want to ensure every child and parent feels heard, supported, and empowered. This programme is helping me deepen my understanding and strengthen the support I can offer across our community.

Together, we can build resilience, connection, and hope. 💙

Why not indeed! The Service Children's Community Choir is the most amazing group of children and young people who welcome new members in with open arms and warm smiles. It is a great way to make friends whilst also learning new skills and they go on so many exciting adventures together. Choir is back tonight so why not give it go? International Day of Charity

Today, we celebrate the power of giving—and the incredible impact charities have on communities across the globe.

Here in the UK, the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust is a shining example of charitable work that transforms lives. As both a charity and a Non-Departmental Public Body, the Trust delivers high-impact funding programmes that support our Armed Forces community—from Veterans and serving personnel to families and carers.

Their work focuses on:

Supporting mental health and wellbeing

Removing barriers to family life

Providing extra help for those in and after Service

Strengthening bonds between military and civilian communities

On this day of global generosity, we honour the Trust’s commitment to ensuring that those who serve—and those who support them—are recognised, valued, and empowered.

Hooray it's almost the half term holiday and the sun is still shining. I know that lots of our families here in North Yorkshire will be busy preparing to move to a new place, a new home or even a new country and this can be a really stressful period so it is more important than ever to take some time to be quiet with our children and to be more mindful so why not enjoy a mindful scavenger hunt and help them to notice things around them which helps them to stay grounded.
Have a wonderful half term and see you all on other side!
