So…flare-up management for me at the moment!
Like many of the fab people I support in my work, I too have a long term condition that requires management.
Couple of things happened yesterday which I suspect led to this flare-up.
❓Could I have managed yesterday better? Yes.
❓Am I making that judgment now with more information than I had at the time? Yes.
❓Am I going to beat myself up for that? NO!!!!!
Instead, I’m going to go gently today and, very importantly, be kind to myself. This means:
- gentle, regular movement: this might be a few mins walking around or just regularly noticing my posture and changing position
- asking for help Eg I asked kids to unload the dishwasher; I asked the barista to carry my coffee for me.
- prioritising: leaving tasks that I physically can’t do today - what’s the worst that can happen?
- regular painkillers & anti-inflammatories
- heat and ice
- mix of sitting and standing during therapy sessions
- regular deep breathing with longer out breath to help release any tension in my body
So, if you’re also in the middle of a flare-up today, I feel you, and, please, be kind to yourself ♥️
