The purpose of asana practice (yoga poses) is to achieve comfort in the body in preparation for sitting in stillness. My priority is to make yoga safe and accessible for everyone, through modifications and alternatives. Yoga is a complementary practice to activities such as weights and cardio, by helping to maintain a full range of movement in the body, and activating the parasympathetic nervous system. I encourage students to bring movement into otherwise static postures, to help release the bodyās fascia.
I began my yoga practice in 2012 as a way to manage the pain and physical limitations I experienced due to being born with a neural tube defect. I went on to study Sivananda yoga and Vipassana meditation in Kerela, India, in 2015. In 2016 I embarked on teacher training at Yoga London. Since then I have worked on specialist yoga events with international teachers at Secret Yoga Club, and taught classes in Camden, London.
Iām currently jamming to Alice Coltrane, who was the wife of jazz musician John Coltrane. After his death she developed a yoga practice, founding an Ashram in California in the 70s . Her meditative music is astonishingly beautiful - I like to include a track or two in my classes! I also love to play anything by Bristol based musician Phaeleh. His ambient work is perfect for yoga.
Outside class I enjoy dance, particularly 5 rhythms! I spend a lot of time painting abstract art in my studio.
