Tired of glasses or contact lenses and wondering if laser eye surgery could be right for you? 👓➡️✨

One of the most common questions we hear is: “Is there an age limit for laser eye surgery?”

The truth is, age is only one factor. While most people need to be at least 18 (often 21) with a stable prescription, there’s no strict upper age limit – many patients successfully have treatment well into their 50s and 60s if their eyes are suitable.

In our latest blog, we explain:
✔️ The minimum and ideal age for laser eye surgery
✔️ Why prescription stability matters more than age
✔️ How treatments can address age-related changes like presbyopia
✔️ The key factors that determine whether you’re suitable

If you’ve ever wondered whether laser vision correction could work for you, this guide is a great place to start.

Why most people don’t realize they have Glaucoma—until it’s too late.

One of the most dangerous things about glaucoma is not how it progresses. It’s how quietly it does.
In its early stages, there are no warning signs.

No pain.
No obvious change in vision.

Because glaucoma doesn’t affect what people rely on most—their central vision—until much later.
Instead, it slowly takes away peripheral vision. Gradually. Almost imperceptibly. The brain adapts. Patients compensate.

Until one day, they don’t.

By the time symptoms are noticeable, significant and irreversible vision loss has often already occurred.

That’s the part many people don’t realise:
Vision lost to glaucoma cannot be restored.

As ophthalmologists, we’re trained to detect what patients can’t feel or see yet—through routine pressure checks, optic nerve assessment, and visual field testing.

But the real challenge isn’t just diagnosis.
It’s awareness.

Because the question isn’t:
“Do you have symptoms?”

It’s:
“When was your last eye exam?”
Especially if you’re over 40, have a family history, or conditions like diabetes or high myopia—regular screening isn’t optional.

It’s protective.

Glaucoma doesn’t announce itself. That’s why we have to go looking for it.

We are blinking less — and paying for it.
Remote work didn’t just change where we work. It changed how our eyes function. When we focus on screens, our blink rate can drop by up to 50%. That means:

• Less tear film stability
• More evaporation
• Increased inflammation
• Rising dry eye symptoms

And here’s the part most people miss:
It’s not just discomfort.

Dry eye impacts visual clarity, concentration, productivity, and even decision-making fatigue. In a screen-first economy, ocular surface health is no longer a minor issue — it’s a performance issue. Artificial tears aren’t a strategy. They’re a temporary relief.

The real conversation should be about:
✔️ Blink awareness and screen ergonomics
✔️ Tear film quality, not just quantity
✔️ Early intervention, not late-stage symptom management
✔️ Proactive eye health in remote workplace policies

As optometrists and ophthalmologists, we have an opportunity to reposition dry eye from “nuisance condition” to “modern occupational health priority.”

The future of eye care isn’t just about sharper vision.

It’s about sustainable visual performance in a digital world.
If you’re noticing end-of-day irritation, fluctuating vision, or screen fatigue — it may not be “just tired eyes.”

Let’s start treating it like what it is.
