Today is Ectopic Awareness Day.

This year’s theme is – and I think that’s so important. Behind every number is a person, a family, pain and a lost dream.

Baby loss can be such a hard part of our story to carry. It’s something people generally don't talk about, but, of course, it stays with us.

I encourage you to take today as permission that your grief is valid, your story matters, and you are not alone.

If you want to reach out to talk through anything that has come up after reading this post then don't hesitate to get in touch.

⚡ Out of Office ⚡
I’m currently away and will be out of office until Monday, 28 July. I won’t have access to my work phone during this time, but I’ll be checking emails occasionally if anything urgent comes up.

Like many of you, I find it hard to take a pause, so I’ll be holding onto this mantra:
"You can’t pour from an empty cup"

See you on the other side 😘
Anna

I believe the key to personal growth is to embrace two opposing ideas at the same time.

We can disagree with someone while respecting them - this is us prioritising maturity and self-awareness.

To be the best version of ourselves is to move forward with no regrets, and I know if I give that bad look or sarcastic comment that's what I'll end up holding.

Therapy is more than a place to heal - it's a space for personal growth and success.

More people are using therapy, not just for trauma, but to monitor their life direction and ensure they are the best version of themselves.

Therapy can be used to strengthen emotional resilience, improve decision-making, and thrive under pressure.

Remember, it’s about investing in your future and turning your dreams into reality.

I currently have space available for new clients, get in touch if you want to see how therapy can help you succeed.

Happy Friday! Something I know a lot of us struggle with is slowing down, I wonder who needs to take permission from this post this weekend to take a break?

A big part of therapy is becoming of aware of the needs of your mind and body. It is a crucial skill to recognise when you need to rest and allow yourself to do so.

I encourage you to pay attention to those subtle signs of exhaustion:
Irritability,
Lack of focus,
Feeling overwhelmed.

The benefits of slowing down are deeper self-awareness and resilience. Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup.

Self-compassion is one of the key ingredients of self-mastery, so do try and tune in with what your body needs without judgement.

One of the most rewarding transitions in the therapy room is when a client moves from weekly sessions to monthly check-ins.
This week, one client who has done just that shared:
"Thank you for helping me. I honestly believe contacting you might be the best decision I ever made. I don't think I would have ever got out of the life I had shaped for myself."
If you want to make changes to your life, then please get in touch at www.am-healing.co.uk.

How in control do you feel?
Therapy can provide you with a deep sense of balance and control.
By understanding our past and inner narratives, we can navigate the present with grace and strength. Emotional regulation is vital in this process - it empowers us to respond rather than react, fostering deeper connections and healthier habits.
I encourage you to think about what steps are you taking on your path to emotional wellness?

Mental Health Awareness Week: Understanding Your Nervous System

Each day this week, for Mental Health Awareness Week, I'm sharing a tool that I use in sessions with my clients.

Today’s tool is all about recognising which part of your nervous system is activated, so you can choose the most supportive self-care to meet it.

This comes from Polyvagal Theory, which I simplify into three core states for clients:

Shutdown:
When life feels completely overwhelming, your nervous system may respond by pulling the brakes.
You feel frozen, numb, disconnected.
You might withdraw from others, struggle to get out of bed, or feel like nothing matters.
It’s depression. It’s hopelessness.
It’s your nervous system’s “power save mode” - a way to survive when things feel too much.

Self-care for Shutdown:
🩵 Gentle movement (stretching, or opening the curtains to let daylight in)
🩵 Warmth - a blanket, hot drink, or bath
🩵 Connection without pressure (a podcast, a pet, being near someone)

Fight or Flight:
Here, everything is overactive.
You may feel panicky, worried, irritable, or on edge.
Your heart races, thoughts spiral, and you’re either trying to fix everything or run from it (suicidal thoughts or trying to change your whole life, new job/new house/new country).
This is anxiety. It's intrusive thoughts, where everything feels just too much.

Self-care for Fight or Flight:
💙 Movement - run, dance, shake it out
💙 Journaling or drawing what you’re feeling
💙 Breathwork to reconnect your mind and heart

Connection & Stillness:
This is the ideal state - not perfection, but presence.
You feel calm, playful and open.
You don’t have to prove anything. You’re allowed to rest.
It’s self-awareness. It's self-understanding where you step into the communication style "I'm ok, you're ok".

Self-care to stay here:
💜 Take in someone else’s smile
💜 Creative play (music, cooking, drawing, walking, reading, socialising)
💜 Communicate without bracing for rejection or judgement

💭 Which state feels most familiar to you right now?
💭 What might your nervous system be asking for today?

There’s no “wrong” place to be. Each state has a purpose.
But the more we can name it, the more power we have to meet it with gentleness.

If you’d like help recognising your patterns and moving toward more days of connection and stillness, I have availability for therapy sessions.

Mental Health Awareness Week: The “I’m OK, You’re OK” Framework.

Today’s tool is one I often share with clients:
Learning to see the world from an “I’m OK, You’re OK” place.

If we experience a difficult childhood full of neglect, abuse or anger, we end up stuck in feeling anxious, guarded, or self-critical. As we grow into adulthood this creates a Life Script that we should relate to the world with:

💙 “I’m not OK, you’re OK” - the anxious position. We feel like everyone else is fine whereas we are the problem. We then silence ourselves, over-apologise, and feel like we’re always failing.

🩵 “I’m OK, you’re not OK” - the defensive or guarded stance. We’ve been hurt, so we protect ourselves by assuming others will disappoint us.

💙 “I’m not OK, you’re not OK” - the hopeless stance. A place of stuckness or despair, where nothing feels safe or worth trusting.

💜 But when we gently shift into “I’m OK, you’re OK,” we meet the world from a place of balance. Our self-esteem improves so we can recognise our worth and the worth of others. We don’t need to stay invisible, overcompensate, or attack. We meet people in the middle (balancing the relationship circle).

I encourage you to think about what position do you find yourself in most often?

By coming to therapy you can begin to introduce a more compassionate voice in your mind that grows helps you calm your mind through self-understanding and self-awareness to allow you to see the world from an "I'm OK, you're OK" point of view.

Remember: expectation affects outcome.
When we expect balance, respect, and kindness, we’re more likely to invite it in and see it when it is there.

Mental Health Awareness Week: Introducing the Relationship Circle

Each day this week, I'm going to introduce a tool that my clients find effective! Today's tool is key to recognising how healthy our relationships are, I call it The Relationship Circle.

Imagine each relationship in your life as a circle.
You own one half. They own the other.

Healthy relationships stay balanced - both people texting, planning, and showing up. But sometimes we realise… we’re carrying more than our share.

🩵 Do you send the “Hey, just checking in” texts first every time?
💙 Is it always you buying the gifts, offering lifts, making plans?
🩵 If you stopped, would they show up?

This isn’t about keeping score, it’s about making sure adult‑to‑adult connections feel equal, and therefore respectful.

I encourage you to mirror their level of effort, not to punish or provoke but to create space. When you do a little less, the other person often has room to lean in. That shift can be powerful.

💜 Your time and energy are precious—share them with the right people.
❤️ You deserve respect and fairness in every relationship.

If you’re exploring tricky dynamics and want support, I have daytime and evening therapy slots available.
Reach out on 07482 043064 to chat or book.
