I’m Portia, a certifie

d and trauma-informed breathwork facilitator dedicated to guiding you on a journey to nervous system regulation and emotional healing. My passion lies in empowering individuals to regain control over their reactions, responses, and emotions, allowing them to reconnect with their authentic selves and break free from the suffocating grip of daily overwhelm. I work with people who feel disorientated and overwhelmed by the mundanity of adult life and sense unease around this version of themself and the life they are living. The research is clear across physical, neurological, and emotional systems, that working with the breath is fundamental for healing and presence. We can regulate our nervous system via the vagus nerve – the longest nerve in the body – it connects your brain to many organs including the gut, heart, and lungs – it also influences your breathing, digestive functioning, and heart rate – all of them are closely related to your wellbeing and mental health – breathing in a way that stimulates your vagus nerve also activates the restore and repair function. Your breath will bring you home again, and again. I am: Qualified / Accredited / Insured

This is the post! No reel or fancy crafted images I’m afraid 🤪 Just me at my desk with a to-do list that’s spilling off the page and my brain that’s already halfway on holiday!

My capacity and creativity are low right now so if you feel the same, please indulge me with…

What’s one thing you’re happily doing half-arsed this week?!

Mine is also holiday packing, usually I’m all about a list but I’m just chucking in what I think we might need this time around!

Loved writing and recording this one and I’m taking with me that reminder that we can pause, replant and return to tend whatever’s ready to grow. 🌱

Even if it’s been neglected.
Even if it’s only just peeking through.
Even if we don’t quite know what it’ll become.

This week’s breather is live now in your inbox (or in The Breathing Room if you’re subscribed).
It’s there for YOU. 💛

One of those days where everything clicks 🙌

• Breather sessions for my community
• Finalising the October Habit breathe programme
• Drafting sessions for a new corporate client
• Working on a new networking presentation
• And the Autumn class schedule is ‘mostly’ live now!

Lots going on behind the scenes and I love it! It feels so good to be doing this work and doing it with you!

So if you’re ready to breathe a bit more intentionally this autumn (online, in person, via your inbox or even on WhatsApp) you’ll find what you need via the link in bio!

And if you’re already in my diary, I can’t wait to see you!

Same cheeks but way more laugh lines!

Today on my 40th birthday I’m not sharing “40 lessons at 40” but instead just a few sayings I’ve collected over the years. They’ve been scribbled in notebooks, screenshotted mid scroll and repeated to myself when I’ve needed reminding.

Some are cheesy but all of them have landed at just the right time.

So in no particular order, here are a few favourites I come back to 👇

• Short-term discomfort over long-term resentment.

•You could do that/think all those things – or you could just stop making it into such a big deal.

• Expect good things - and I want to hear about them later.

• Never be the first to finish a hug.

• You don’t need more time, you need fewer distractions.

• If you’re going to spend that much time worrying about X, you owe it to yourself to also spend the same amount of time thinking about the best case scenario – and the most likely outcome.

• Don’t say you can’t do it – you just haven’t done it yet.

• It is what it is. And what it is… is sh*t.

• Nothing changes if nothing changes.

• A ship’s safest place is the harbour, but that’s not what ships are made for.

No idea who originally said most of them. But I’ve kept them close and maybe one of them lands for you too.

Which one’s your favourite? Or got one of your own? Tell me below 🫶

Off to celebrate with my lovely husband and our three kids 🙌

I keep hearing this lately:
“I need to reset everything.”
“My nervous system is all over the place.”
“I should probably start doing X Y Z” (insert latest crazy wellness trend here 🤦🏻‍♀️!)

But most likely:
You don’t need a nervous system makeover.
You just need a nervous system moment.

That’s why I created the summer breathers. Short, simple guided video sessions you can actually use in the middle of chaos, travel, no routine, too much noise or just when you’ve had it with everyone and everything!

🌀 Morning Reset
🌙 Evening Wind Down
🫠 Midday Meltdown
⏱️ 5 Minute Timeout

All delivered weekly to your inbox via Substack (in addition to standard weekly content), plus access to the full Breathing Room library.

No pressure just real tools for real life overwhelm.

You can join for £12 month and cancel anytime. These bonus summer breathers drop weekly throughout August ☀️

Breathe into Calm this Sunday Evening: Tonight’s 8pm Online Breathwork for Relaxation session will be our last online class before I take a summer break.

If you’ve been meaning to join or feel like you need a proper exhale before the week begins - this is your moment!

This is your permission slip to pause.
To sink into stillness, soften the edges and give your nervous system the care it deserves… all without leaving the house.

✨ Camera off is totally fine
✨ Come as you are - in bed, on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket
✨ Cosy socks and a warm drink always welcome (weather dependent!)

We’ll ease into an hour of calm breathing, gently soothing the body and quieting the mind.

If you know someone who could really use this space tonight too?
Feel free to forward this info to them.

(And if you’re local the final in-person class this term is Tuesday 29th July at Axminster Health & Wellbeing Centre at 7pm.)

Looking forward to a peaceful hour together.

And in between? Took my daughter to the dentist and had my eyebrows sorted!

Breathed. Recharged. Carried on.

This is what running two businesses looks like sometimes 🤪 part pause, part productivity.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way. 💛

Curious about how I support small businesses behind the scenes? I’m taking on 1-2 new clients, you can DM me “support” and I’ll share more.

A lovely class goer asked how they could use their breath to ease anxiety and support recovery with an upcoming Op and I honestly love that more of us are turning to our breath as a tool 🙌 not just something that happens in the background.

It doesn’t have to be perfect and you certainly don’t need a whole routine.
Just a moment like a 4 count inhale, 6 count exhale can really shift how you feel.

Simple, powerful and always with you.
Even from a beach with crutches!🦶🌊

Ps - if you’re on my mailing list I’ve just shared with you the full list of breathers I sent this lovely lady. x

Last breath of the term in Yeovil tonight 💛
It’s hard to put into words how much I love this space, this group and what it feels like when the room softens and everyone exhales together.

has become a little pocket of calm every fortnight, a place where we arrive frazzled, overstimulated, running on empty… and leave a bit more grounded, a bit more us again.

To everyone who’s shared a breathe here this term: thank you. You make this work feel like such a privilege. 🙏

I’ll be back in September. But for now, I’m soaking up the quiet and the glow from tonight.
