Today is International Women’s Day and, as always, I’m noticing a range of perspectives.

Some people are celebrating loudly, championing other women and sharing their work which is so lovely to see, and for the women they know to be appreciated. This year’s theme, Give to Gain, reminds me of the reciprocity and collaboration we see throughout nature.

Others feel more cautious about the day - concerned it can become a marketing moment that disappears once the hashtags fade. Reminding us of the need to pay close attention to out intention and actions.

And then there are the powerful stories of women doing remarkable things, often against considerable odds.

Another perspective I often find myself thinking about on this day is how men percieve and engage with it. While the pressures may be different, many men are also navigating expectations around work, identity and emotional expression. Progress doesn’t feel like a competition between experiences, it feels more like a shared effort to create healthier environments for everyone.

For me, these perspectives can all sit alongside each other.

Perhaps the real question is how we make awareness days like this genuinely worthwhile.

👉 So what’s one thing you might do / or think differently about as a result of this heightened awareness that you’ll carry beyond today?

For me, it’s continuing to encourage more honest conversations both in and outside the workplace, because awareness only turns into change when people feel safe enough to talk about how they REALLY are.

This month is brain tumour awareness week….

A couple of months ago I shared that I’d been diagnosed with two brain tumours after a couple of months of persistent headaches and fatigue.

They’re benign (something I’m very grateful for) but they do require major surgery. That surgery has now been postponed several times, so I’m currently living in the space between diagnosis and treatment.

It’s an interesting place to be!

One thing I’ve learned is how complex this diagnosis really is. ‘Brain tumour’ isn’t one condition -there are over 100 different types, each with different behaviours, treatments and outcomes. More than 12,000 people are diagnosed each year in the UK, and around 88,000 people are currently living with one.

It’s often described as rare. It doesn’t feel that way once it’s part of your vocabulary.

In my case, the symptoms weren’t dramatic. The headaches were persistent but explainable. The fatigue was easy to rationalise.

The reason I didn’t ignore them is because I’ve built a habit (personally and professionally) of checking in and noticing patterns rather than pushing through.

This month, organisations like The Brain Tumour Charity and Brain Tumour Research are raising awareness, funding research and supporting families navigating this.

If there’s one thing I’d encourage, it’s this: don’t dismiss persistent change. You know your own baseline.

And if you’re in a period of waiting — medically or otherwise — I understand how that feels. It’s one of many lessons this experience continues to teach me, and something I’ve been reflecting on more deeply in my newsletter recently.

✨ We are a FINALIST in the National Gift of the Year Awards ✨

I’m incredibly proud to share that the How Are You REALLY? Check-in card range has been named a Finalist in the Wellbeing category at this year’s Gift of the Year Awards.

What began as a simple question - How are you, REALLY? - has grown into something that is now being recognised at a national level.

With over 160,000 check-in combinations across physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual aspects of wellbeing, these cards were created to help people pause, notice early signs of stress or overwhelm, and take small, meaningful action.

To see that intention acknowledged in this way feels both humbling and affirming.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, shared, used, and believed in this work. Every check-in matters. 💚

With nearly 50 days of rain already this year, it’s no surprise that winter can feel heavier - both physically and emotionally.

Shorter days, lower light levels, and colder weather naturally affect our energy, mood and motivation. Often we respond by trying to push harder, when what we may actually need is something different.

Winter is a season that invites us to slow down, notice our limits, and take care of ourselves in smaller, steadier ways. 🌱

Sometimes the most helpful starting point isn’t doing more - it’s pausing long enough to check in with how we’re really feeling.

Hi, I’m Jane - psychologist and author of the How Are You REALLY? check-in cards.

These cards were created with a simple but important belief: If we don’t know how we’re really doing, we can miss the early signs that something needs attention - whether that’s stress building, burnout approaching, or simply a need to pause. 🌱

They’re designed to meet you wherever you are. You can use them at any point in the day - during a quiet morning moment, before a meeting, after a difficult conversation, or when something just feels “off.”

✨On the front of each card is a single check-in word.
✨On the back, you’ll find three prompts to help you understand that state more deeply, along with small, meaningful ways to respond.

With over 160,000 possible card combinations, each check-in guides you through a gentle, structured process - one that builds awareness without overwhelm.

My hope is that these cards bring you small moments of clarity and calm, whenever you reach for them. 🌿

✨Why simple prompts can help create more meaningful conversations ✨

Talking doesn’t always fail because people don’t care.

Often it’s because we don’t know where to start.

Simple prompts remove the pressure to explain everything at once. They create a shared starting point - whether that’s in a team check-in or around the kitchen table.

🌱 Instead of: “How are you?” (which often gets “I’m fine”) a prompt invites something more honest, without forcing it.

That’s why structured check-ins can be so powerful. They make space for conversation- gently, safely, and at a pace that feels right.

Did Time to Talk Day yesterday prompt any new conversations for you?

Today marks Imbolc 🌱

A seasonal moment that sits quietly between winter and spring, traditionally a time of renewal, hope, and gentle beginnings. Not a rush into action, but a pause to notice what’s slowly starting to stir beneath the surface.

At How Are You REALLY?, this feels like a natural invitation to check in.

To notice how you are - physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually and what you might be carrying as the season begins to shift.

💭 What feels ready to emerge?
💭 What still needs rest or protection?
💭 What small intention feels right for the weeks ahead?

Imbolc reminds us that change doesn’t have to be loud or fast. Sometimes, it starts quietly with awareness.

💬 Testimonial Tuesday 💬

We love hearing how our How Are You Really? cards are becoming part of your daily routines 💛

✨ “My girlfriend and I have made them part of our morning routine — they’ve become such a meaningful way to check in with each other.
Each card opens up space for honest conversation, helping us understand how we’re both feeling and how we can support one another throughout the day.

It’s such a simple but powerful idea — it’s helped us become more mindful, connected, and kind.” ✨

These are exactly the moments we hoped to create - small, meaningful check-ins that spark real connection. 💭

Have you tried a How Are You Really? moment with someone you love?
